Hey guys,
just wanted to let you know that another chapter of “Sally and me” is finished, and can be found here and here as well as on DtV in the morning. Thanks to everybody for reading and I hope you do enjoy them 🙂
But what I actually wanted to whine about was something I just found out:
brawna.org has a 50.000 characters limit on all stories, a limit that I find quite low. Somebody who rambles on like I do can easily break the fifty-thou, let alone what a really talented writer could put out. Also, deviantart has a 64kb limit on text deviations. Forty-six! kilobytes! In 2013!
I don’t really have a question or want to start a discussion, I just wanted to put this out there and maybe warn others who might read this not to get overly wordy if they want to do some writin’ (and shamelessly plug my new chapter. Yay, another year went by!).
Thanks for reading.

I’m wondering if Brawna’s 50k word limit is within a collection of separated chapters or just for each installment? If it is not then all you have to do is split your story into coherent chunks or just find the most appropriate break in scenes to start the continuation elsewhere on the site.
If the 50k limit is for a collection of works then just break them into separate books. As long as the content fits Brawna’s guidelines I haven’t noticed any sort of bad reaction to such a solution.
As for Deviantart I’d suggest doing the same. Instead of reigning yourself in with brevity just find a good place to start another section. It worked for the pulp masters!

Hope this helps.
February 8, 2013 at 3:39 am #112528AlexGKeymasterI used to have some fairly long stories on DA,
broke them down by chapter and didn’t have any problem with uploading them due to size as a collection.Only thing was, had to do it in reverse order,
otherwise the last in was 1st chapter in sequence rather then first chapter as 1st to be read.“I like a good story well told. That is the reason I am sometimes forced to tell them myself.”

February 10, 2013 at 11:10 am #112561nelekParticipantWell, breaking it up in chapters is the obvious thing to do, it’s just that the problem in my case is that the latest chapter itself was too long. So, I had to break up a chapter into chapters, which isn’t that great.
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems odd that there would be a limit in the first place and, if there had to be one, that it would be something as low as 64 kb. I know most people won’t post anything that long, but I’m sure some do and they’d be happy not to be limited to file sizes from 1987 😛 .
And, @ Cowprobe: the limit seems to be for every piece posted, meaning every child page of every book gets 50,000 characters each.
