This one could have been posted under Comics, but since I felt it reflected more upon Society and Media as an interpretive subject (as in the eye of the beholder) I've posted it here instead.
Anyhow, I came across this topic on the Unrealmuscle forums – thought you'd be interested in it.

“I like a good story well told. That is the reason I am sometimes forced to tell them myself.”

As you observe, Joss is unlikely to expect his star to hit the gym prior to filiming, which is a shame because a celebrity that puts on muscle makes it more acceptable/desireable for normal women to go and do the same.

Whedon is an Amazon fan.
There are strength-feats in most episodes of "Buffy".
Take the premise of the show:
Beautiful blond California cheerleader kills monsters instead of being killed by them.
I watched each episode first-run & have all the DVD's.
If Whedon doesn't cast a muscular woman as Wonder Woman, it will because of Hollywood, not him.

My point is: Was Buffy in fact buff? No.

We need She Hulk in a movie………..then we might see real muscle.

I see one choice they are looking at is a British actress Jaime Murray.
I can only frind a couple of head shots of her. She is pretty but nothing like what we would like to see.
August 11, 2005 at 8:24 am #10346DavidParticipantJoss Whedon has said he wants someone tall enough to be 'amazonic' or else he's casting a lot of short actors.

Please explain how you could expect Whedon to cast a "buff" woman as Wonder Woman?
"Buffy" wasn't "buff" because he knew he couldn't get away with it on his show.
Not being "buff" doesn't mean she wasn't an Amazon, because it was obvious she was.
It was the best he could do (and he did pretty damn good, because she's a pop-icon).
I'd love to see a hugely muscular woman playing Wonder Woman, but we both know that just won't happen.

PS – Another interesting fact, one of the most prominent tribes in greek Mythology was the Lesbians, inhabitants of the Isle Of Lesbos. i always got a kick outta that.
