Explain it however you want-when William Moulton Marston created her in 1941, she was straight. Change her sexual preference for the film, and I lose interest. Hell, I keep hearing that Joss Whdeon wants to change her costume for the film-too drastic a change to her costume would make me lose interest. I realize that, when taking a property from page to film, changes have to be made. There are acceptable changes, and unacceptable changes. Making a straight character gay is an unacceptable change, to me.

Addressing WW's sexuality in a film that's going to draw a large number of children and pre-teens would be irresponsible anyway, in my opinion. And Delmo's right; WW is posited as heterosexual. Speculating aloud about what she and her fellow Amazons did about sex (if anything; how do we know they weren't celibate?) is fun for us fanboys (and -girls), but a movie that purports to tell the "official" story (or at least "an" official story) can't stray too far from canon. Trying to establish WW as bisexual or lesbian would do just that.

(And a word about the costume: Personally, I'd lose interest if any of the ideas I've seen expressed here vis-a-vis redesigning the costume for the movie were to be implemented, causing the design to stray too far from its origins. If the costume don't look like WW's, then that ain't WW on the screen… "Exhibit A".)

Thanks for agreeing, DC! Usually I'm the odd man out when it comes to my views.

I remember the Cathy Lee Crosby pilot from 1974. Even at the age of 6 I knew that WW didn't look like that, and was disappointed.

I agree with you guys, too. Back on another website about Superman, there was a lot of uproar by die hard fans about the look of the dude playing Superman. They raged about the suit and his build, along with his hair. Most fans don't really sit well with even the most minute change to their favorite things. As an admirer of the rippling forms of muscle women, I'm sure they'll disappoint me with their choice for Wonder Woman. I just hope that they don't stray too much from the canonical costume like they did during the Cathy Lee Crosby shot. I'm sure a lot of die hards will be up in arms about an unrecognizeable WW. We're kind of having the same discussion about WW being cast over at the Superman dedicated website, too. I posted the idea of Jelena Abbou for the role and no one seemed to care or like her, so I'm sure they'd be opposed to someone muscular in the role. That bites.

There so much riding on this project. Some think the chosen actress will undergo some training, but it's believed she won't be very fit. Even coming close to Jessica Biel's Abigail Whistler could be stretch to the WB exec's.

Jelena Abbou has a great shape. I'd also suggest Pauline Nordin. But none of these women appear to have done any acting whatsoever. Also both of them don't look tall enough. A 5'8" can fool some people, with the use of midheel boots. But shorter people won't fool everybody.

I nominate Kelly Brook. A bit of training and she might pull it off. She's 5'8".

This is actually pretty close to what Joss Whedon has said in his talks about what he wants to do.

I don't get the fascination with Morena Baccarin for this part. She's tiny and looks like a little girl. She doesn't have a majestic, goddess-like look to me, nor does she look amazonian. I've seen this argument in a lot of places online. Baccarin should not be Wonder Woman, I don't care how much she trains, she doesn't have the look to begin with. I'd like to see someone with a more mature look in this role. Unfotuately, it looks like Whedon wants to cast her. Hopefully, he'll buck the feeling and choose someone with more acting chops and a better look.

Well, Baccarin has a combination of childlike and worldly qualities, and would probably make for a decent Wonder Woman.  The problem is that physically she is a waif.  In Whedon's shoes I might cast Baccarin and then have her don a CGI motion capture rig so that a much brawnier personification could be generated on-screen.

That sounds like way too much trouble and expense. The solution is to cast a woman who isn't a waif, nor is she so muscular that she would turn off middle America. There's got to be a happy medium somewhere.

CGI shouldn't be used to allow for a poor casting choice. I've heard this argument another bboard. CGI is too expensive and time consuming to be used in such a way. There are actresses out there that can fit the bill for WW's physical requirements. Baccarin just doesn't work. She looks like a 12 year-old with a woman's body. She's too short and a waif. If they stick Baccarin or some other unworthy choice, like Sarah Michelle Gellar or Eliza Dushku, it won't work. Whedon's buddies should not be cast in this picture just because he is the writer and director, and that's even if his draft is greenlit. I have a feeling that Whedon'll use this as a vehicle for one of "his" actresses or that they'll cast some popular, teeny-bopper waif like Lindsay Lohan. I just hope that Joel Silver and the rest of the production staff will actually cast this one wisely. There's a great opportunity for this to be a great comic book movie, they just have to seize it.
