I'd like to see Morena Baccarin (Inara from Firefly) as Princess Diana.
I finally watched "Serenity". Haven't seen Firefly. Nice actress, but she looks so cute. Can't imagine her being the Amazon who is lead like a general.

Shame it won't happen.

That's why I'd like to see her do it. I've always liked DCMatthew's choice of Charisma Carpenter for the same reason, too.

That brings up a question: will this Wonder Woman be portrayed as militaristic, "tough" like the JLU version, or will she be "softened" into a nice traditional superhero for the general audience? Remember that these superhero movies are not tailor-made for comic book fans (we can't make a movie a blockbuster–do they use that word anymore–by ourselves).
I think they're going to have to balance out her more relatively more recent comic book and TV depicition as a ballsy chick (no pun intended) and her more well-known depiction as "a caring, pretty lady with superpowers" (who doesn't get too mad, fly, or fight like a man, etc).
Thoughts?
March 26, 2006 at 7:13 pm #10412HolidayParticipantHere's a quote from an interview:
The Wonder Woman Problem Only Joss Whedon Could Solve: “Finding out who she was, and that’s all I’m going to say.”
Joss Whedon Has Not Already Done Wonder Woman: “No because usually, people I write are very, very down to earth and she’s the opposite. She’s somebody who is supposed to be Wonder Woman and spend her life being Wonder Woman but then she’s still as vulnerable and as new at it as anybody else, but she’s the opposite of every character I’ve ever written.”
Wonder Woman Will Still Have Whedonesque Dialogue: “Absolutely. Wonder Woman’s perspective is very serious. But that’s what’s so funny about her. She doesn’t understand the word. She’s a fish, and this is a phrase that I’ve just come up with, who is outside of the water because she’s so pure and so focused that she comes to a world that is so compromised that she understands nothing about, of course there’s going to be humor. And she’s also an intelligent woman, but she’s not a wisecracker. But at the same time, she’s not going to miss an opportunity.”Joss Whedon on Discovering Another New Starlet for Wonder Woman: “That would be the hope because it would be great to find somebody new. It’s a very tough role and it’s a very specific role, so I can’t think of anybody off hand who’s right for it, so I’d like to meet her.”
I Suggest Morena Baccarin for Wonder Woman: “You’re not the first and believe me, there’s a list. But the list is only in my head because ultimately I have to write the character and then I have to figure out who the person is.”
Joss Whedon on a Lynda Carter Cameo in Wonder Woman: “If it’s right for the movie. I think Lynda Carter’s great. I mean, I ragged on the show but that’s not her. It’s just a question of I’m not going to do something that isn’t integral to the film. If I found something that was right, absolutely, but not if it takes you out of the narrative.”
Chances are we're getting a mix of the Whedonesque heroine and 'Coming to America'.
March 26, 2006 at 7:38 pm #10413AnonymousGuestSo Diana will get the royal hoo-hah cleaned by naked, nubile Black Amazons, and visit a ghetto corner barbershop full of old men arguing over "Cassius Clay" or "Muhammad Ali"? That should be fun.
March 26, 2006 at 11:03 pm #10414Dragonsblade77ParticipantI was never a fan of Whedon's work. Something about how he tells stories turns me off. I just keep thinking Whedon's not the guy to do a Wonder Woman movie. He even said that she's not like his other characters. When you blend a character that most people know to be a certain way, people are going to expect that character in certain situations. I think Whedon'll take the wonder out of Wonder Woman and make her more like Buffy Summers. I hope I'm wrong.
March 27, 2006 at 2:36 am #10415AnonymousGuestanyone remember this chick from the Average Joe2?
Don't underestimate the power of the unknowns:Lou Ferrigno,Christopher Reeve,Christian Bale,Hugh Jackman,Eric Bana ,Half the cast of Fantastic Four and Arnold Schwarzenegger(you could count either Hercules or Conan the Barbarian as breakthrough and Superhero roles depending on your definition of either term) were all unknowns or relatively unknown. This maybe due to the fact that producers are more willing to take risks with these superheroes because of the perceived strenght of the popularity of the character alone(heck,Carson Daly could have played Spiderman and it'd still destroy the box office) .Wonder Woman, the most famous superheroine probably would place 10th in a popularity contest hence less risk taking(they should have learned from that Catwoman fiasco tho.)April 2, 2006 at 10:22 am #10416The Muffin manParticipantWouldn't WW and Thors kids technically be FULL Gods?
April 4, 2006 at 3:57 pm #10417HolidayParticipantHas anyone read the news that Kate Beckinsale has joined the list of WW candidates? No surprise to those who have seen her action roles. So the process continues.
Hey, has anybody seen Janet Harris on Ron Harris's website? Does anybody know if she's ever worn a WW costume before? I bet she'd look perfect!
