KeymasterI think we can all agree that American Idol's Kelly Pickler is pretty. We don't need to say anything else, because the clip speaks for itself.

ParticipantWow.
She said "I thought Europe was a country". She's so wrong she's approaching right from the other side! [covers eyes in shame for her teachers sake]Bo.

ParticipantYe Gods, those who say that the US education system doesn't see the need to teach people about any other country bar the US are right. I'll allow Budapest, as fasola said, but the rest IS ludicrous, especially the fact that the quizmaster gave the wrong answer too (It's not bloody Hungry, it's HUNGARY (or Magyr to locals), you cretin!) Why do Americans seem uninterested in other countries when their government so often is?

KeymasterThe quizmaster (Jeff Foxworthy) was joking. And I've got two words for your indictment of the U.S. educational system, cpbell: Jade Goody:
After leaving school [Jade Goody] worked as a dental nurse before coming to public attention in 2002 when she became a contestant in the third series of the UK version of Big Brother.
Goody was soon a target of ridicule in the British tabloid press[7] for displaying a high level of ignorance regarding basic general knowledge for a British native. Goody thought that the British city of Cambridge was in London. On being told that Cambridge is in East Anglia, or rather Goody's "East Angular", she assumed that this was abroad.[8] Goody also believed that Saddam Hussein was a boxer.
Pickler's career rests on three legs – charisma, talent and hilarious ditziness. She has a tendency of saying things that are so dumb they're clever, like Yogi Berra. I would guess that the reason she was invited on the show was the expectation that she would generate at least one funny, viral YouTube video like the one above. And she did.

And she did.OK, so she's the American Jade G****y. I'm glad that her knowledge is poor by normal US standards, though I did recently read a report which discussed poor geographical knowledge in the US generally and blamed the education system for viewing knowledge of foreign geography as being not important. Bit cruel to invite her on the expectation that she'd be good comic value, though – and I'm notconvinced that the host was joking when he called the country "Hungry". Problem is, that's a lose:lose situation; either he was daft enough to mis-pronounce it or he did so deliberately to put her into even more of a tailspin. The "Europe = country" quote was scarily accurate, as Boinaka pointed-out – many Brits are unhappy at the desire of some in he EU to create a bland, faceless superstate that removes the identity, character and traditions of ancient kingdoms and newer republics, replaceing them with "one size fits all" governance from Strasbourg and Brussels.
