Looks like you were right. 😉 Now we are returning to the begining: you against the Pumas. I hope both teams will do better than last time… :-
France should be able to beat the Pumas this time around – they were a bit lacklustre against South Africa.
October 15, 2007 at 7:32 pm #59879fasolaParticipantI'm kind of sad you know. I really thought that we might end up winnig, but then, when the other team has Habanna in their lineup, there isn't much one can do. We never beat South Africa in an oficial match (and we did it only one when the they had put the ban, with a different name obiously). I don't know about the 3rd place match, I mean we don't have anything to lose.
CP i really don't understan what you mean by lacklustre (actually I don't even know what that word means).
And finally, the championship match, man I really don't know what might happen, but the 36 – 0 from the first round might be something heavy on the shoulders of Jonny.
Because let's face it, Jonny and Brian are the main reasons those 2 teams made it to the finals.

I didn't see the match, but apparently your defence was outstanding. To beat the Frenchthat convincingly was yet another shock in a World Cup of shocks. Still, SA will win tonight, I'm afraid. ::) :'(

Yeah, sure. Too bad they weren't against us… :'(
I thought our team was gonna make it for the first 10 minutes, which were really promising. Then the game toughened and the pumas succeeded where the french team was unable to conclude.
The end of the first half was quite stormy on both sides: the slap machine went at full speed… :'(
And in the second half our team simply collapsed: heart wasn't there anymore. 🙁 Poitrenaud salvaged something from the wreckage whith his try transformed by Beauxis at 69'…Sadly, this resumes the first half… 3 yellow carboards in this match…

I didn't actually watch the France-Argentina match, but my father did, and he stated that it was the Argentinian defence that won it for them. I really don't know what happened with France – they seemed to lose their way in this RWC. They seemed so good against the All Blacks, then collapsed against England (not that I'm unhappy about that ;)), but they really seemed to capitulate against the Pumas. Where has the creativity in attack that I remember from years ago gone? It seems that they have lost their menace with ball in hand.As for the Final – I must admit I am disappointed, but i'm not surprised. SA were the best team through the tournament, and deserved to win. What lost the game for England, IMO was:
1. Lack of discipline – they gave away too many silly penalties too close to their own posts.
2. Tiredness – they had given their all in defeating Australia and France, so had little left to give against the 'Boks.
3. Poor lineouts – they never threatened the Springbok lineout, and their own was very shakey.
4. The try that never was – an Australian video referee was never going to give it to England, was he? He would always find something wrong with it. I still think it was a try, because the only possible problem with it that I could see was whether his toe hit the edge of the line before his foot lifted, but I don't think you could definitely say that it did from the footage available. I therefore feel that it should have been allowed.
Perhaps we ought to get Lingster to lock this thread now?

That's exactly what the french commentator, Thierry Lacroix (an ex of the XV deFrance) said half-jokingly, that this sure wasn't good for England since they eliminated the Wallabies. And frankly, this was really hard to tell if he put his foot down before or after the try… :-

I've seen it again today, and it was definitely a try. Who says that Aussies are good losers? >:(
