For those of you that have collections of images downloaded from the Internet (or other sources), how do you deal with duplicate images? Do you have a way to automatically identify them, do you do it manually, or do you not bother and just keep them?

I know that back in the day, the serious newsgroup collectors used to use the Excel CSV file format to keep the dups out of their archives, but the file names were based on the Softwood catalog number system, so that wouldn’t work now. Also, off-Hard Drive storage back then was limited to either 3.5 floppies, or if you could afford it, a CD burner. So you really had to watch out for any dups taking up space.

Otherwise, I manually double-ck and purge any dups via the PSP thumbnail browser. Still, some manage to slip by, but nowadays, off-HD storage isn’t as much an issue with portable thumbdrives and/or HDs.

Back in the day, the collector-types used the Excel CSV file format w/ a software package that could scan the folders on their HD to weed out any duplicates from their archives. File storage space was more of issue back then, since you had only 3.25 floppies and tape drives, or if you could afford it a CD burner, as a form of HD backup.

Normally, I just use the PSP thumbnail browser to ck and discard as I go along.

What’s so bad OR wrong about duplicates of internet pics?
