    I figured this would happen, but the thread subject was one of the topics up for discussion on yesterday's (09/08/08) 1st hour of the Dennis Prager program.  The archive page allows for computer and/or iPod re-listening.

    Ah yes, Mr Prager.  Sometimes I agree with him, sometimes I think he's an idiot.  I'll have a listen and decide here, though my vote goes for "agree".

    As usual, I'm a dollar short and a day late on this topic.

    I believe it's some sort of "Political Booster" a group party jumps on for the sake of making themselves look good.

    Also, can anyone clarify things to me on this issue? For instance, are they talking about men and women looking very provacative on advertisements?  Or are they trying to say that images like that spread an unhealthy message as far as "you have to look like this to use/have this"?

    My understanding is that it's anything that could be deemed provocative.

    Now THAT'S got me worried, cpbell.  After I had discovered Yorkie chocolate bars, and their slogan on them, I pursued and found this advert on YouTube:

    I think it's funny, clever… and I'm wondering where it's going to be left in the wake of this.  ???

    Ladies, I don't think I should ask, but… is THIS too sexist for you?

    Oh yes, Yorkie bars.  I personally find them unpleasant, but there you go.  The whole idea of them being masculine is that they're big and chunky and they were the favourite snack of long-distance lorry drivers who tended to be hairy, overweight blokes.

    Admittedly, Dennis can pompous at times, has his moments when he's, IMHO, foolishly naïve on certain subjects, even has blind spots (but don't well all?) where he's (rarely) not thought something completely through, but he's anything but an "idiot".

    I suppose I'm allergic to most American talk radio hosts (except Rachel Maddow, but I'm saying this quietly to avoid Lingster.

    Hairy, overweight blokes?  Hey!  ;D That's ME!

    I like the blocky, solid, no-nonsense, this-is-a-Yorkie-take-it-or-leave-it-mate BBC (Brown Boring Chocolate).

    Ya don't like 'em?  Ah well.  Send me yours.  😛

    Okay, back on topic.  To be honest, I at first didn't care one way or the other because (1) I'm in Asia, and (2) I kind of resent advertising's targeting my libido to buy a product.  I did a little reading, and uncovered the core of the matter.  Did you know Mr. Clean was being targeted?

    Yeah.  I wish I was making this up:  It's in the New York Times and commented on in Crosswalk.

    The critics are targeting him, because his "…muscular physique might imply that only a strong man is powerful enough to tackle dirt."

    Oh. Brother.  ::)

    We have Mr Muscle instead of Mr Clean, but the guy who advertises that is very skinny, the idea being that even runts can get things clean with Mr Muscle.
