    I tried it white. It had less contrast and was more invisible.

    You could try adding a white block behind the text and then adjust the transparency. That might boost the contrast without subtracting too much from the design.

    lol yeah, I do that all the time. Considering you're using photoshop…

    -Make text white
    -hold ctrl and click on the text layer's thumbnail (this selects the area around the text)
    -go to select-modify-increase, and then increase the selection by maybe two pixels?
    -make a layer underneath the text layer, and fill the selection with black.

    That gives each individual letter it's own black shadow/background. It looks something like the text on this image.

    I put a stroke on it which looked great except film posters never do this. They just do it plain – black or white and that's it.

    I think the only way to redeem yourself is to post new work.  A lot of new work.
