For a number of various reasons I've recently given serious consideration to reposting my old story "The Necklace." I wrote it from Dec 98 to sometime in mid to late 99 and posted it on ZZZ's GTS message board. It then resided on my old website till Geocities pulled it down in 2003 for inactivity (I had a four year period with no internet connection.) as well as being archived by Hi-Standard on his site up until he also vanished.
The point of this post is to gauge interest in my reposting this old story. I won't lie. It's long. 41 chapters long and approximately 61,000 words. It has some FMG in it and some small scale GTS (about 15 feet.) but it's really more of an adventure story with FMG/GTS in it than a pure FMG/GTS story.
I know the handful of people who encouraged me to continue writing it and commented regularly enjoyed it but beyond that small group I was never really sure how well recieved it was, being extremely long and not a typical genre piece. So I'm trying to figure out if it would be worth the time it would take for me to repost it or if there is just no interest in such a long piece. There is no wrong answer, I just want to know. Thanks for your time.

Truthfully, this site can feel pretty lonely if you aren't writing something typical- not that you are likely to get unfriendly comments; more like you are unlikely to get any response at all. If you are writing for the validation of your peers, this could be a major bummer for you.

Please count me among those who would appreciate the opportunity to read "The Necklace" again. For that matter, I would appreciate reading any new or old works that you may wish to share.
Tschuss!

I do remember 'the necklace' and if my memory holds true it is DEFINITELY a worthy story that should be reposted. The writing was well down and much thought was placed in the character developement. Please post for all the 'newbs' of the genre to enjoy!

Hmm. Where have I seen that before. It could just be the title though. DtV has a story with that title. But, I'm not sure if it's the same one.
I'd love to read it. 😀

You're correct, same title, different author – in this case, Rick Powers and reposted here on Amaz0ns:

Also, another with a nearly similar title, also here on Amaz0ns:

This is in no way about validation from my peers. I've been going over the story for my own reasons and polishing some of the rough spots that always bothered me as well as rewriting a few of the earlier chapters (I had never intended the story to be that long when I first started it and the lack of direction shows in the earliest chapters). Since I'm reworking it anyway I was just curious to see whether or not anyone else would want to read (or reread) it.
The Necklace.

I've been aware of the story on DtV for years. It was written not long after I finished mine but the story is very different and I think it was only two or three parts long. I recently learned there was an overzealous fan who did an extensive rewrite of The Necklace (my version)in preperation for producing their own sequel (I had started one but never finished it). That one is similar to my own (since it has the same characters and mostly the same story) but their are some drastic differences which would push any sequel into a very different direction.
Hat tip to AlexG who managed to post even more info on the DtV version while I was still writing this. Thank old friend.

Hell yeah, repost it! I LOVED your version of this story! I remember a tiny bit of confusion when the DtV version came out shortly after yours, but I was always disappointed that I had never managed to archive the whole thing on my disks. The adventure aspect of your story was so worth reading that as it was being posted, sometimes it didn't occur to me that there was a chapter without growth or amazons. Just a great tale!
Obviously, I'm voting in the "repost it" category 🙂
Long tales as long as they're well written more than make up for the time investment in reading them! (As Alex G. is proving with his repost 😉 )
Thanks Silent One!
