I always have liked the off season look better. I never went to a show, but used to go to the WSE and met a few other fbbs elsewhere. I find it better to stay away from meeting them in person. The deep voices kind of got to me after meeting some girls. The skin issues can be unappealing as well. I love the look, but don’t like the side effects. I guess that is kind of hypocritical of me. Gina Davis was probably my all time faovorite because she was appealing and didn’t seem to have any side effects from here hugeness.
Colette was very nice, but I fear for her a little later in life with all this surgery stuff and long term usage. You can see some change in the last 8 or 9 years for sure and hear some change in her voice. Real nice girl. Lauren Powers was a little over the top for me in person. Her look is what I mean and not her personality.
Colette’s old flame and maybe her present flame too did some time in jail for roid and other PE drug disribution. I’m surprised she’s on there admitting this. It kind of kills any aspirations of her getting a mainstream TV role and might make the guy a target since they are cracking down on distribution of HGH and all that. I would not have admitted that to Gumbel. It would be a huge mainstream story if a major pro athlete did that. He’d have the feds at his place already.
We all know the abuse was there, but I’m surprised they were so open about it. You never know who might see that and drop by to ask some questions about their supplier. Sherry Smith was arrested for possesion last year. It isn’t like it can’t happen.
I wish all the girls well though. I’m more into the wrestling and strength appeal of the fbbs. I’m not interested in dating one and that segment would be a great example of why. Do you want your girlfriend to have a 5 oclock shadow before you do? I like it from a distance these days and only the women who retain their female features. Maybe strongwoman and powerlifting is the way to go for some of these girls if they want to compete.
July 26, 2010 at 12:37 am #94321AlexGKeymasterWith a training regimen of 4 hrs a day, 6 days a week – well, that’s an obvious give away in-and-of itself. In order to keep up that kind of pace over the course of months and then yrs, and able to build serious-sized muscle, you’d have to be naïve to believe that they’re able to do it w/o using gear.
I think, or would like to think, most of us realize the reality of that aspect.

OKC firefighter didnt lose her job over it sooo….August 6, 2010 at 2:20 am #94526ant1937ParticipantMaybe the union saved Shery. No idea, but if it was not afelony charge, then she mostlikely would not lose her job.
I’ve seen Colette’s roles in those shows. Not exactly mainstream unless youtube is mainstream. I think at age 36 she’s pretty much just going to do whatever she is offered. She did get a brief appearance on Fox news out of McCain girl….with the other Mccain girl. The olympic piece where Colette tossed around Obama girl was kind of cool.

I do think Collette Nelson came across as a bright and very genuine person, and the interview segments with her were the highlight of the piece, IMO. But Bryant Gumbel comes across as unable to completely mask his disgust and condescension. They also did the same aggravating thing as the guys who made the film Bigger, Stronger, Faster when they interview Lauren Powers and she is talking about the steps she takes to maintain a feminine appearance. She has a strong and angular face, and they make sure to interview her when she’s at her most ripped, which further hardens the facial angles and details. The intention is to mock her, as if to wink at the viewer and say “haha, she doesn’t realize that she doesn’t look feminine at all!” I think it’s pretty slimy and insensitive.
I was glad that they showed the effort required and how poorly the women are being treated by the IFBB. But the impression I get is that they’re trying to make the point that these women must be sick. They talk about muscle dysmorphia and the implication is that it’s what is wrong with them. After all, they take steroids (harmful effects), they work out a lot (can’t have a woman being strong!), and the reward money from shows is an insult (so they must be doing it for another reason!). The part about how they make money is designed to insinuate that they’re little more than whores (and Gumbel actually asks that question of Powers, and did you see how they edit her response? Please!).
I think that the idea was to make it clear that Gumbel and his team find this to be very strange (and not in a good way). The message is that these are sick women who should be pitied. I would rather that HBO had not bothered at all.
