Archangel_Dreadnought gave me a great idea on how to fund a new Wacom. I have established a PayPal donation system. And for those who donate $10 or more, they get a commission piece from yours truley. All the details are outlined in my latest journal post on my deviantART page.

I have a Genius Wizard Pen 5×4 tablet that cost me around $40 US (current currency) and I’m very happy with it and some of my pals too 😛
If you like, you can check how it works for me in my gallery group, everyone’s welcomed there (yeah, shameless plug)Anyway, wish you luck with your quest!
Cheers, Lonebeatle.

I’m a Mac user. The Genius, like a lot of other pen tablets, is only PC compatible. So I have to stick with dedicating to Wacom. That and I already have the drivers for a Wacom tablet so I don’t have to worry about installing any new programs on my computer.
If I still had my PC I would have easily dropped the few dollars for the Genius tablet. But seeing as the options always drop for Mac users, I really have a limited stock of options.

The coloring looks better when done on a computer.

Yeah…plenty of people draw with pencil and paper, ink the picture, then scan it to color it on the PC…
June 29, 2005 at 1:21 am #6908Matthew LimParticipantI actually sketch it on paper, scan, ink it in Illustrator and color it in Painter.
What’s wrong with pencil and paper?
There’s nothing wrong with pencil and paper. I still do quite a few sketches in my sketchbook. Sometimes I use a Wacom for about half of my sketches.
I prefer to have the Wacom generally for 4 reasons;
1) Better quality
2) Less time to finish
3) Undos
4) Is a better financial investment than constantly having to buy suppliesAnd for the obvious question of "How is a $200 Wacom tablet a better financial investment over paper and pencil?" To put it simply, over time the Wacom will pay for itself. Before I got a Wacom, I would draft the image in my sketchbook. Pencil and ink the image on bristol board, scan it in and color it with my mouse. In the year I’ve had my Wacom, I’ve completed about 50 – 60 images of various sizes. Based on the usual supplies I got before my Wacom the same 50 – 60 Images would have cost me roughly $130 and wouldn’t have had nearly the same quality as my current images. On top of that, most of the images I’ve done on the Wacom were bordom sketches either done on paper in my sketchbook or in photoshop or sketchbook pro. My avatar was one of the bordom sketches I did in Photoshop while I was in class. Before the Wacom I really had to plan on completing an image. So it’s really an investment to upgrade my artwork.

Very interesting!!
I’m also glad that you found out it’ll be cheap for you to get a USB cable 😀
June 30, 2005 at 4:37 pm #6910Debido-SanParticipantHEY…I’ll donate…but ummmm…well….yeah I can’t do paypal…pm me an adress to send…well…umm…actual cash to lol…
Yeah…But hey I support it! I want a wacom too, but you can put it to much better use than I ever could!
July 4, 2005 at 5:29 pm #6911BassParticipantYup, Wacom graphic tablets are awesome :D. Ever since I got mine I haven’t gone back to using pen and pencil. I enjoy been able to keep the whole process digital, and been able to erase and undo without deteriorating the quatlity of the outline.
This gives me an idea though. Um, I need a 1 GB stick of PC-233 SODIMM, DDR SDRAM for my Powerbook. Please donate :p. All left over money will be spent on booze.
