Wow, you guys sure are polite. Great job simply saying you have a differing opinion, and maybe giving some reasons why you feel against pirating of media. :- ((this being mainly directed at pixxxie who's idea of showing a well thought out opinion is throwing up a random GTFO image ))
Edit, had to go on a mini rant since I feel I didn't explain myself enough:
Just because someone would rather go on youtube, or use bittorrent than pay $15 a month for something doesn't really entitle you to be angry at them, unless that person stealing your work, which of course you have the option of perusing legal action by having said material removed from youtube, or finding and charging the seeders of the torrents.
Also, I don't see how Lingster would have ire for my comment, I'm not aware of any content that he holds a copyright for that I'm stealing. If this was a site for a FBB, and I was stealing her members only content and bragging about it to her, I would understand. So, in short, please show me what I'm stealing from this site to deserve rude comments…
February 13, 2008 at 8:49 am #63274TC2ParticipantThe only problem is basically the piracy notion itself.
When you wrote you post it came off that you don't like to pay for movies, music, games, etc. It doesn't have to relate to the 'niche' genre we have here but just not paying for anything in general?
It costs people money when people pirate like that, people that need that money to produce more content. Sure you may be just one person, but multiply yourself by 100,000 or more and suddenly you're forcing things to be done at a cheaper cost and then lower quality.
I always buy my video games, movies, etc. Because it supports an industry I love, and I always buy the things I know I'll enjoy. But you claim to not purchase at all unless it's a special occassion, and with the way it's worded it sounds like that special occassion is not very often.
Lingster also has very strict Anti-Piracy rules here and low tolerance for pirates, so thought you're not stealing from the website. Just stealing in general gives you low marks.
I only have an issue with these piracy things because it affects me, I'm in one of the industries that people pirate and I don't like losing hard earned money. But that's just me.
February 13, 2008 at 8:56 am #63275stmercy2020ParticipantI would also add to TC2's comment that your piracy, when added to the piracy of others, has an effect on every person who willingly pays for content; because the price of production is constant (or growing!), piracy places a greater financial burden on each and every one of us who goes to the trouble of paying for things we appreciate.

I *was* being playful….now I'm fucking livid.
You want a well thought out opinion, little boy….fine….you're gonna get one.
As someone who's had media in the form of artwork & music stolen from her and then passed off as someone else's work entirely, the mere thought of someone bilking someone else's work really…really…REALLY pisses me the fuck off. If someone works their ass off to make something, it's only polite that you provide restitution to that person, be it monitary or in the form of a well written letter or a trade in your respective medium of art.
What you wrote implies that you clearly do not give a hot wet pink fuck about the hard work that people put into providing your mooch ass with entertainment & wankterial. Assholes like you that don't feel that they should pay for ANYTHING fuck it up for everyone else. Full stop.
What TC2 & stmercy said echoes my sentiments 110% (side note: TC2….we're cool now, buddy). It seems like you feel like you're entitled to free entertainment. Guess what? That's not how it works, spanky. You gotta give to get. Plain and simple. If I wanted to, I could get ALL of my musical equipment for FREE….but I choose to pay for it all. Every string, pick, drumstick, drumhead, etc…etc….I pay for it in full. Why? Because I feel that it's my obligation as a considerate consumer to provide monitary restitution to these people that provide me with the tools of my trade.
You wanna be a thief and steal shit? Go ahead. Steal games. Steal movies. Steal TV shows off of BitTorrent. No skin off of my nose. I just want you to know that fuckers like you discourage people from posting free samples of artwork, music, movie trailers, etc. etc. You're on par with those motherfuckers that go into bulk grocery stores, eat all of the free samples and then leave without buying anything.
Is that a well thought out opinion or do I have draw it for you in crayons & stick figures?

To be honest, that kind of mistake isn't surprising from someone asking "Duh, what's wrong with piracy." It's stealing and last time I checked, pretty much every society, religion and culture of size dubbed that as "bad". You may not be going into a shop and stuffing DVDs up your jumper but you seem to be living in some magical fantasy world where paying is a choice.
You bragged about not paying for things… were you expecting people to slap you on the back and go "Wow, you've got the skillz to stick words into a torrent site!"?
In short, the reason people are flaying you is because even if your actions aren't directly affecting people here… they have indirect consequences… and because you're the kind of "gimme, gimme, gimme" type of person that the greater transformation community has to suffer, who'd rather thieve copies of paid work or wait for a company to go broke before handing over a penny – which (as Pixxxie says) means less content for everyone.
And quite frankly, if you don't know why Lingster might find your comments unfavourable… you probably might want to start hoping you never have to find out.
February 13, 2008 at 4:18 pm #63278LuParticipantIf you can't understand why people are pissed off that you don't pay for fucking anything- you don't realise it's those kinds of tight ass cunts than ruin things for everyone else. You're selfish chanscum and going on like you're fucking bragging about it is even more retarded.
I think one of the main reason you've offended a lot of people is becuase there's a lot of people who create on this site, and it's not cool to have your stuff stolen by dicks like you. It's shit, and it's fucking offensive when you do that to people who really do work hard.
The fact that you refuse to pay just makes me angry. If you can't pay it, you shouldn't fucking have it. It's down right fucking immoral.
Oh, and I agree. If you are going to be such a selfish tight ass prick, you're not the kind of person we want around here. That's why you got the GTFO, since you couldn't seem to fucking process that.At least most of us try to contribute fucking something.
Anyway.
I have to tell you guys to play nice.

Agreed, I'm watching you all from my seat of power here on the mountain, so keep it civil. Thank you.

Because you shot my neighbor I shouldn't be mad at you because at least you didn't shoot me? That doesn't compute. Theft is immoral. And freely accessing content that you'd otherwise have to pay for (because the content provider didn't choose to distribute it for free) is theft. I've seem some try to explain it away as non-harmful theft (because the content provider still possesses the original), but I don't buy into that line of reasoning at all.
There's certainly significant content that is being distributed freely. Thus, it's even more distasteful when someone actively seeks to tap into payment required content streams for free.

You have a mountain? WTF! I want a mountain!! All I have is this pile of dead bodies. And it stinks. 😉

Totin' bodies all day long… Doo Dah, Doo Dah. 😉
I might add that if it weren't for the success of the early pay sites like WPW, Diana the Valkyrie, and LH Art we wouldn't have the current culture of female bodybuilding and FMG etc. that we enjoy today. Granted it's still not a huge culture but if those early pay sites had gone down we may have had nothing today!
