ParticipantWe got back from California last night, spent most of today getting over jet lag. Believe me, you don't need a time machine to experience time-travel paradoxes… not when a flight that leaves at 10:05 AM can last six hours twenty minutes (including a 40-to-45-minute layover in Houston) and still arrive at 1:25 PM, three hours and twenty minutes later (because of time zones… 10:05 AM Eastern time, 1:25PM Pacific time). The trip back was worse… departure 9:25 AM (Pacific), arrival 8:05 PM (Eastern): seven hours forty minutes, including a 2-hour-20-minute stop in albuquerque to change planes, that got us home 11 hours forty minutes later! Makes my brain hurt still, just thinking about it…
But we had a great time. Did a lot of driving around, saw some sights in person that we'd only seen in photos, movies and TV shows: the Pacific Caost Highway, Hollywood Boulevard, Disneyland (of course we did Disney, had to compare the Florida park with the original… and the original wins out in a lot of ways). Had a nice 30th anniversary dinner, met some interesting people. Looking forward to going back.
But I'm just as happy being home. Going without the Internet for a week is longer than I like. (Yeah, they had broadband access at our hotel — for $2.50 a day, and I didn't bring an ethernet cable to connect with anyway…)
So: glad I went, glad I'm back. Hope to get some drawing done soon, it's been entirely too long since a post.
Thanks for all the well wishes, everybody everybody!

ParticipantGlad you're back, DC! Glad you had a great time in Cali with the missus, too! ;D
Closest I've been there was my very first flight to China, with a two-hour layover in LAX… no time to see anything. 🙁
I know the blues on jet lag… hey, you should try it across the Pacific Ocean, and switching the AM for PM. With the International Date Line and today/yesterday/tomorrow thrown in for laughs.
