Taken from The Chicago Tribune, I managed to collect most of the genesis story from last year of Jenn Erica becoming the Empoweress.  Although a few strips are missing, it doesn't really effect the continuity of the story line.

For those unfamilar with it, the strip is a parody of the superheroic genre – w/ a "Bloom County" satirical interpretation to it.

Wow,
I had NO idea that such a comic strip ran in then Chicago Tribune -and I live near Chicago, DOH!- This is right up my alley too, superhero parody! (Normal plain jane gains superpowers, tries to save the world in a male-dominated superhero biz, and gets her powers taken away by 'THE MAN' -LOL, funny!- It reminds me of the sad reality that society tries to shun away from the powerful superheroine, let alone muscular one. But, it was a very nice read too, hopefully Jenn Erica/Empoweress will make another appearance in the CT sometime soon.

It's a fairly recent comic strip, Dunlap started it in '05.  Not surprising you didn't know about it, the Chicago Tribune picked it up last yr, along with Lio, which is something of a "Far Side" type strip w/o any conversation.
