was. Why on earth would they pressure them to not have calves? Surely part of the reasn for the heels is to show-off the calf muscles? ???
April 19, 2008 at 8:23 am #69226asianfitnessfanParticipantThanks for the post; I'd not heard of her, but I like what I see. I notice that she has problems with a thicker waist in terms of trying to create a v-taper. I seem to recall we discused this some time ago, with me defending Isabelle Turell as an example of someone else who has to work hard on the upper body to balance-out the waist. I'm also inrigued by her reference to calves. I'd never realised what it was that was different about Figure competitors' legs compared to FBBers' legs, though I had felt that something was. Why on earth would they pressure them to not have calves? Surely part of the reasn for the heels is to show-off the calf muscles? ???
Calf development is tricky, anyway. Generally, people either have it or they have to really work at it. In either case, I prefer the look of shapely, well-defined calves. I don't know why the aesthetic is changing, though. I complain about it at length here: http://asianfitnessblog.com/2007/05/25/is-calf-development-now-penalised.aspx
Anyway, thanks for reading the interview. Mo generally will respond to comments and questions if you want to leave her a note.

Might I say your article is one of the best that I have read on the subject of judging and physique for a long while and that I can definitely see the trend about which you are speaking. As much as I like Amanda Savell, she should never have beaten Julina Malacarne in that contest – Malacarne had the more muscular, shapely physique IMO. 8)
April 24, 2008 at 10:47 pm #69228asianfitnessfanParticipantThanks for your kind words– you are somewhat of an authority on the subject of muscular women. 😉 As far as the calf trend, it heartens me that Huong Arcinas made it into the pro ranks.
Hey– you should comment more at asianfitnessblog.com! (And I should comment more here at amaz0ns before I complain about lack of interaction in the blogosphere . . .) ::)
April 28, 2008 at 7:38 pm #69229asianfitnessfanParticipantAnother thought– one doesn't see this trend happening with the FAME contests. And, I was browsing contest photo results over at Hardfitness, and I seriously think that calf development is not rewarded at all. I have to look over the results some more. ???

Was that comment addressed to me? If so, then WOW! Thanks for the compliment! I'm really not the expert that you think I am, as I've only followed this subject for around 15 months.
