And this proves it:

(Can't say as I've ever heard of him, which is saying a lot.)
“I like a good story well told. That is the reason I am sometimes forced to tell them myself.”
~ Mark Twain / Samuel Clemens (1907)
Yeah, that – even for him – was an incredibly foolish stunt.

Where do I start? ;D
Here is probably as good a summary as any:

Many people take him too seriously – they think that he's as controverial, chauvanistic and boorish as he appears on TV. Much of that is an act. He's very witty and has, along with his fellow Top Gear presenters created a blokes' dream programme; banter, cars and larking about.
I thought that was his charm – the personification of the boorish man child?
Suffice to say, this rates fairly high on the idiot-o-meter… I'd say something like "at least he had the courage of his convictions" but this was rather stupid.
I find Jeremy Clarkson vey entertaining and surprisingly pleasant and charming. Top Gear is a really fun show.
This story about him is typical, and I laughed a lot. I've got a lot of time for him, even if he is a loudmouth know-nothing who can't learn from his mistakes.
I suspect some of Lingster's dislike of him stems from his continuous American-bashing. 😛

Ya think?
If any of you Brits hear about Top Gear doing another American expedition, please do let me know the details. I'd like to stage an intervention.
Heheheheheheheh.
Clarkson is a persona. I read TopGear magazine regularly (I'm lucky enough to have a Borders near me that handles it). Its a character that he plays to the hilt. He bashes everything, I saw the episode of TopGear where he lavished gobs of praise on the new Rolls Royce Phantom as being the finest ever built. Then he proceeded to bash ***England*** because it took RR being bought by BMW, a German company, to get it made.
He unloads on America regularly but his favorite car in his collection, by his own admission in print and on TV?
A 2006 Ford GT
Clarkson is cool and funny, and not adverse at taking shots at himself, either. Just head over to YouTube and search "TopGear", there must be at least 2 dozen clips from the show.
I just wish Discovery Channel had continued to carry it a couple years back.
If I wanted an opinion about a car, I wouldn't ask that hairy Mr. Potato Head.
