ParticipantThey're scared, cpbell. It's almost funny. They're scared of this pretty "girl" with muscles. I don't know why. Is it because they don't have any, and thus she is "more of a man" than they? "She's huge!" ::) Despite their fear, she must still be attractive to them–or else they would ignore her. It's one thing to not be attracted to physically strong women or women with apparent muscularity (diffrent things turn peoples' cranks), but it's another thing to ridicule someone out of fear and ignorance (simply not knowing)–as these "pop culture commentators" do to Evangeline Lilly from Lost, Serena Williams, and surely others.
You know if these folks saw Biel in person, they'd be running her down for an autograph, at the very least, the hypocrites.
I'd like to collectively grab these nitwits by the shoulders and shake some sense into them, screaming "Stop being afraid, people!" at the top of my lungs!
Thing is, Grandmaster, I'm physically disabled. I use a wheelchair, have weakened and short bones, have a stature that barely exceeds 4 feet, and, other than my upper arms, I'm skinny. Am I scared of Jess? Does she make me feel any less masculine? Do I even need to answer those rhetorical questions? Of course not. Every time I see photos of her (especially from a while back when he was buffer than she is now) I drool. She is a beautiful, goddess-like vision of athletic, muscular femininity. I compare her to a panther or lynx – do male wildlife experts criticise female big cats for being muscular? Of course not: that's how they are.
Of course, if these guys are too scared, I'd always be ready to take their place! 8) I can assure you that, if I ever came across her in person (which, being British is highly unlikely) I would be slack-jawed with wonder and would be weaving my wheelchair past anybody else to get the chance of her autograph and to speak to her.
Oh, and you mentioned Serena Williams – I can't remember whether you commented on my post recently about her – sorry if you did, but I can't remember or not. I for one think that she also is a very sexy Amazonic woman with a muscular, curvy body that is just too sexy for words – and then these idiots bad-mouth her, say she's manly. <<Headdesk, headdesk.>> ::)January 28, 2007 at 7:33 am #45284Grandmaster

I feel as though these critics are really saying, "I want to love you, too, Jess, but the muscles…won't let me." That aversion seems an artificial construct of society's influence in their minds (which is sad on multiple levels), only because they write about it so vehemently. (If it was simply a matter of taste, I don't think there would be such a venomous strain in their commentaries.) Maybe my always being a guy who likes who/what he likes for his own reasons, without acclimating to other people's taste (it's fun–these guys should try it sometime), is why the whole "eww" factor is an infinitely amusing phenomenon to me. Going out of one's way (hosting, posting, linking, etc.) to ultimately say that you don't like the way some woman looks is ridiculous. On the other hand, like you inferred:

"Screw 'em–make way!" I admire your restraint. That you would "weave" around, rather than plow straight through me 😉 to get to Ms. Biel marks you as a true gentleman.

I did indeed…

"Twats."
Pardon my vernacular, and this moment of crudity, but if a woman with (what I imagine is) skin that silken, (natural!) bangers that big, and a budunkadunk that round is "manly", then…then…I…I don't know how to finish this sentence! 😛

ParticipantIf jokers like Tuna and Egostatic can't tell the difference between a man and a woman, I hate to read their opinions on identifying obese and starving people. >:(

Thanks for your views, Grandmaster; you've put into eloquent words what I have thought for a long while now. Jess's body is about as feminine as its possible to get – the muscles add to her sexiness, not detract >:(. By the way, Holliday, both those websites are as hopeless at identifying healthiness from anorexia at one extreme and obesity at the other as you fear they are. >:(

ParticipantOn the theme of guys who must be SERIOUSLY uncomfortable about their masculinity (possibly because they don't know the difference between masculinity and machismo); just check this out (about Jess, obviously):
Question: what is with this chick? She has a really pretty face. She just needs to slim down. She is too muscular. But why???
Answer: either she's got one of those hard-nosed quasi dyke mothers whose husbands crawl to their every sick demeaning dykish demand. Or she's daddy's little girl and daddy really wanted him a Biel Boy. All this gym work is clearly behaviour designed to please others rather than herself. If she de-butched, she'd find herself opening movies rather than playing second fiddle to bimbos. I mean, she seems like a smart enough girl. But at this point she's just not convincing as a woman. Remember her dancing down the hall in her underwear in The Rules of Attraction? That was peak Biel for me. Who would have thought a Hollywood babe would have fallen into a downward spiral of … exercise?
The thing that depresses me about this is that the idiot I'm quoting is a fellow Brit. 😮 :'( Still, many British men read "Nuts" and "Zoo", two knuckle-dragging men's magazines, so perhaps I shouldn't be surprised.
All this gym work is clearly behaviour designed to please others rather than herself.
Don't you just love it when these people feel qualified to pass comment on the psychological motives of people they've never met!
