Not much on her out there, but according to ibarramedia @ ftppv.com she started out as a speed skater and gravitated into FBBing.

Given her facial comeliness and the degree of physique development (mind you, this was 1989), its surprising she dropped out of sight so soon from the contest circuit.  8)

Has anyone ever noticed how, when someone drops out of competitive female bodybuilding, they truly drop out? Its not like other sports, or even men's bodybuilding. The veterans seem to be around in some aspect for a long time afterwards. But most female bodybuilders totally drop off the map, even big names. Nothing is ever heard of them again.

Yes, I have.  Probably an inverse reaction on their parts.  They stood out from the societal norm for so long, when they decide to retire from the scene they disappear into the background completely.

I wonder if some of the more "fervent" FBB fans may contribute to it, too. I've only been to a couple of muscle expo type shows and felt embarassed just seeing some of these slobbering obsessives practically accost the women. I think they don't see them as women, just walking muscles to be groped, with little or no real respect for their hard work or that they are even a person.

There are exceptions to the rule: Juliette Bergman (who had without a doubt one of the best physiques of all time when she first burst on the scene in the 80s) came back to win a Ms Olympia title; Lenda Murray also made a comeback, and by all accounts is going to make another one soon. And there have been women who have been competing for not just years, but decades: Yaxeni Oriquen, Annie Rivieccio, Tazzie Colomb, to name a few.

The extreme fanboy/schmoe factor, it certainly doesn't help.  >:(

Probably one of the most famous of the disappearies would have to be Denise Rutkowski.  There's a thread @ Amaz0ns about her.

I had forgotten about her. My thoughts are usually about Tina Lockwood or Athena (the original one from the '90s)

My understanding was that the current Athena (Ms Siganakis) was the original. ???

Don't get me started on schmoes – I'm afraid these dim-witted idiots have done more damage to FBBing than they could ever realise. >:(
