Super Congrats Sir DCM!   ;D  8)

Now let us [s]hope[/s] pray that femuscular scripts become the "in" thing with screen writers.  ;)

Might I heartily endorse AlexG in his thoughts? 8)  Except I would modify it to read:

    Thank you, everyone!

I should note that the RIIFF website has been updated; they corrected the spelling of my name in one instance, plus they gave the correct credit, as agreed to by Joel and me: "by David C. Mathews [sic] and Joel Davis". (Still misspelled my name in that case, but, well, can't win 'em all, I guess…)

(They misspelled my name – twice – and they mistakenly have me "resid[ing] in Los Angeles" – but that can be corrected.)

Of course, you have to be from L.A. for the script to be good enough to win the Grand Prize! ::) CONGRATULATIONS! It's a sign of the times that a fantasy genre script won the top prize!

    Now sell that bad boy!

I dunno about that – one of the things they noted in the award announcement is that Joel is a native of Cranston, RI, so the organizers were very pleased that a "native son" won (or co-won, as the case may be) the Grand Prize.  (And no, I don't think Joel's RI origins helped us win – there had to have been numerous other submissions from Rhode Island natives, some of whom I'm sure still live there.)

What's funny about that is that I honestly didn't think we had a chance of winning any prize (much less the Grand Prize) precisely because our screenplay was a fantasy effort.  These types of scripts (nor the movies made from them) rarely win at film festivals (unless the festival itself is dedicated to fantasy, sci-fi, and horror).  So winning was as much a shock ("They chose a fantasy script??") as a surprise ("OMG we won!!").

    Now sell that bad boy!

Believe me, we'll be doing our best!

That is just absolutely fantastic, David!!

Hopefully, the screenplay will sell as a movie (TV or big screen) and your ultimate dream will reach fruition!

    Congrats once again.  8)

    Kidding! 😛

I'm glad you were pleasantly surprised. Your story simply was obviously more interesting and well-written than the identity-crises, love stories, and emo weepies offered. (Waving fist) Accept it…accept it… ;D
