Gladiators Returns On Sky One
“Contender READY! Gladiator READY!” Who can forgot those celebrated words? Well prepare yourselves for the ultimate TV revival as the unmissable ’90s TV sensation GLADIATORS returns to British screens with a 21st century makeover that’s gonna ‘ROCK’ a whole new generation of fans. Richard Woolfe, Director of Programming, Sky One, Two and Three has greenlit production on 10 x ‘60 episodes from indie Shine Ltd for broadcast in May 2008.
Anyone got any suggestions on who could be the new Gladiators?

Blast! I must be one of the last people in the UK who can't get Sky TV. >:( Interesting to speculate on who the new women might be. I hope that this delightful young lady will get selected:

February 5, 2008 at 3:42 pm #66755tronParticipantIt's great that its coming back and i hope that they pick some of the bigger girls this time but i suspect that they will aim for the more figure fitness type of deal. On the US side i am glad that they picked Robin Coleman, she seems like a really decent person, comes across as great fun in interviews and very down-to-earth.

You're not wrong! The Aussie version has already been taped and is set to air in the next few weeks. We've been totally screwed though as they're doesn't appear to be a single bodybuilder amongst the female gladiators. It seems that they've gone more for mainstream sports stars like female pole-vaulter Tatiana Grigorieva and Ironwoman Haley Bateup. It's a pity they didn't give us a token super-huge babe like Hellga in the American version.
Wow, I sure hope the UK bucks the trend and picks her. She is smokin' hot!

They'll tend to have slow-twitch musce fibres, whereas Gladiatorial stuff will require fast-twitch. It's like entering a Hummer at the Indy 500 or Bathurst!

Yeah, couldn't agree more, and I liked the Bathurst reference.
To be honest, I think they've done a good job with the guys. Good variety of physiques, and personalities and that guy in the middle is an absolute monster.I just wished they had shown the same variety with the chicks, instead of them all looking like blonde, barbie dolls.

Hoped you'd like the Mount Panorama reference, being an Aussie. 😉
That guy in the middle is terrifying! 😮
I'd have liked to have seen a greater variety of female physiques as you say. Just hoping that the UK version will be better in that respect.March 2, 2008 at 8:48 pm #66760Andy_Fraser82ParticipantI saw some of the contenders in the Daily Record Yesterday (Saturday) and one pic had a nicely muscled women in the forefront.

It seems like they get a lot of female bodybuilders turning up to the auditions, but none of them ever seem to get through. I really wish they would tape the auditions and make them part of the show, something like "So You Think Can Dance?" Anyway, apparently ITV are kicking themselves at not picking up the Gladiators reboot license now that it is a hit, and are getting Simon Cowell to do a similarly themed show, ie a rip-off. Maybe he'll make a feature out of the more memorable auditioners who don't make it through.
Anyway, they're apparently going to announce your gladiators this month. I'll have my fingers crossed for you guys.
