    In the book Pumping Iron ll: The Unmprecedented Woman, there is a picture at the end of the section on old time strongwomen of a performer named Madamoiselle Ani. In the picture, she is shown facing the camera with her biceps flexed and smiling. The image is blurred, so I suspect that the picture of Madamoiselle Ani is actually part of an early film, essentially a series of still photographs, shown in penny arcades all across America. The image is online and can be found at the website of a Russian woman’s athletic club, which has a page of pictures of the old-time strongwomen.

    That’s it. I know nothing of this performer or what her exact specialty was, but it is possible that she was making her biceps go up and down for the camera.
