I gotta be honest, and I hate to sound like such a jerk about.

Maryse is one of those FBBS that make me avoid clicking any links with her. That face is just… well, I think it’s pretty clear how I feel about her.

Incredible body and probably a sweet heart, but man she is very unattractive. The less I see of this chick, the better. IMO.

You’re not, you’re just expressing an opinion held by the silent majority hereabouts.

I rarely comment in the negative about this sort of thing concerning FBBing, but it seems (simply as an internet observer) that the number of really attractive FBBrs, has declined in recent yrs. Don’t know if this is because of the kind of people that are drawn into the sport or what. Maybe it comes down to something as basic those that are willing to be photographed once they reach a certain level of notice by the photogs.

These days, by contrast the physique, figure and fitness women are just overwhelming in attractiveness numbers.

Anymore, when it comes to FBBing, with some notable exceptions in the current era, I readily prefer those that were around several yrs ago. Either that, or artworks seems to hold more of an interest for me nowadays.

I’m glad I’m not the only one to feel this way, Alex!

I hypothesise that there are, broadly-speaking, two types of femuscle fans – the first type is personified by femalemuscleclips who is enchanted by huge muscles on a woman with few, if any, caveats, while the second type, into which I can be categorised, are impressed by such women, but find that, in order to fully appreciate them, they need to find them attractive. It could be termed “schmoes vs. femuscle enthusiasts”,though this isn’t a distinction I agree with (for one thing the word “schmoe” is laden with baggage). It does perhaps explain why people such as Alex and myself find that fewer FBBers are hot nowadays.

There seem to have been many up-and-coming FBBers in recent years who have shown signs of extensive virilisation and possible HGH use (enlarged noses, squared jawlines and even heavy brow ridges) after only a few years in the sport. Of the rest, many, such as Britt Miller, have dropped-out of FBBing or are competing in Physique or Figure at present (Cindy Phillips being a prominent example), perhaps as they are unwilling to make the sacrifices necessary to get to the top in FBBing. Of those who have got to the Ms O finals in recent years, the only one I can immediately think of who has escaped excessive virilisation is Alina Popa, and I dread the thought of her ending-up as a gravel-voiced, square-jawed Lauren Powers clone in an attempt to win the few remaining big events. As far as I see it (and I speak as a biology graduate with a physiology Masters – not throwing my weight around, but I have some scientific insight here), Alina is genetically predisposed either to build muscle with lower-level PED use than many or to resist the virilising effect of those PEDs. Sadly, many others are not as genetically gifted and are therefore left with a decision – accept virilisation in order to compete in the upper echelons of the sport, or switch categories/retire. IMO, a sad example of this is Aleesha Young who, in the space of a couple of years went from buff cutie to poster-girl for virilisation.

In stark contrast, there seems to be a new wealth of Figure/Physique women and many who are physical trainers with a web presence and a combination of attractiveness and muscle. I’m not saying that all musclechicks should conform to an unrealistic standard of beauty, but I think anyone with some common sense who has seen sufficient footage and photos of muscular women can tell the difference between a woman of average facial attractiveness and a woman showing the effects of virilisation.

I’m guilty of being a member of the silent majority Alex refers to above, so I’ll speak up.

I always remain conflicted about women like Maryse. Is she massive and obviously has worked extremely hard to achieve her the level her body is at? Absolutely. Is it worth the price payed? That’s her choice to make. But there in comes the whole FBB debate on how its dropping sponsors etc because it has gone into a place where it just doesn’t appeal to the mass public. In fact, so much so, forget about the mass public, here on amaz0ns.com where it becomes a contentious topic. It is not good for the sport of bodybuilding.

I try to be very careful and not get too “judge-y” (made up that word). Its her body to do with what she pleases and if people like it, so be it. I can ramble on, but I’m going to step back.

Personally speaking, if I had to sit across a dinner table, and someone asked me to pick a female bodybuilder, Mavi Gioia comes to mind quickly 🙂

Muscle mass and body wise, Maryse is amazing. She has the body of a ultra muscular woman in her late 20’s. Unfortunately, the face just doesn’t quite match the body. 🙁

Don’t know, but in her recent pix, Alina appears to have reduced some.

Maybe she’s considering going physique, or plans to go the independent route of Nikki Fuller.

I have to say I concur with most of what has been said here. Maryse and some other “plainer” women
appear quite unattractive as bodybuilders and make very poor subjects for video footage.

THAT SAID, there is a HUGE difference between seeing them live and seeing them on video. I saw Maryse live at the Tampa Pro this past year, and when you see those huge, cartoonish muscles of hers in the flesh, all thoughts of her face and other possible negative features go out the window. You are just MESMERIZED by her spectacular physique. I was actually so taken by how big and buffed she was I was seriously considering having a session with her that day.

So while I agree with most that Maryse and some of the others in her league make poor video subject matter, don’t be so quick to dismiss them altogether. Seen live, they are quite spectacular.

She’s maybe feeling that either the FBB scene is dying, or that she doesn’t feel the sacrifices to win the few remaining events are worth it.
