ParticipantFootball gear is not gender specific because it is designed to protect. Of course it doesn't make a female look masculine if when she takes off the helmet you see a woman's face. Physically altering the body to such a degree that it becomes hard to tell if your male or female is unnatural and makes it even HARDER for people to become more accepting of it.
It's hard enough for people to accept women with muscles when they are strikingly beautiful, such as Gina Davis. Yet, to show them pictures of these She-Dudes would turn them off to the sport completely.
If it's really supposed to be a non-gender sport, then they should just simply call it BODYBUILDING. If it's going to be specifically for females then it should be FEMALE BODYBUILDING. Those (women) should compete in male bodybuilder shows instead. I doubt they have any breasts left to cause a stir.

ParticipantIs it just me, or do I find it ironic her last name is Wang? ;D

ParticipantGreat to see this heated debate.
Here's another photo of Caroline Wang, this time she's standing next to another competitor.
It appears to me that they're being judged not only by their physiques but by their haircuts ? Just a theory
I guess what bothers me the most about this kind of freakfest is that an image like this backs up a mistaken notion held by some guys who prefer the conventional female form. I speak of the absurd idea that guys who like muscular women are odd or, worse yet, latent homosexuals (not that there's anything wrong with that.) 😉 Or, worse still, self-loathing gays who can't accept what we are and see female bodybuilders as some sort of "acceptable compromise" to desires for men that we simply can't stomach >:(
Having to contend with that kind of ignorence and closed-mindedness is the only thing I have in common with a gay dude, but having Caroline in a contest with the kind of hotties I adore can only searve to increase the shmoephobia of mainstream society.

ParticipantThe interesting thing about Caroline Wang is that she has female genitalia , which by most medical standards would qualify her as female. However by current "popular taste" she appears too masculine to qualify her as female.
So now who's actually qualified to be a judge in the sport of bodybuilding;
.. a gym owner, a business sponsor, a fellow sport's person or a medical doctor?I just want to repeat that I don't think that this is a case of whether they're being unfairly judged as women body builders. I do feel that they should be judged on their physiques (size, shape, definition, presentation, etc). And I do not think that they should be used as some sort of referendum on whether or not female body building is good/bad or right/wrong or anything like that. If they're women who want to pursue body building, their facial looks shouldn't impede them from pursuing that.
But I think that what is skewing the discussion is that their faces look distinctly male. Note, not masculine. Male. This isn't about the low fat percentages making their faces look harder and more angular and thus not as feminine as we may expect from a woman (fairly or otherwise). Even in off-season shape, even if they weren't muscular, I bet that they would be easy to confuse as men from the neck up.
Hey, it happens, there are certainly some androgynous men out there, who could pass for a female face even without long hair or make up. I wouldn't use them as an example of gender bias, though, because their appearance is something that isn't common and isn't their fault. I'm sure that bigots will make snap judgments about such people, but it's better to step back and take everything into consideration. Those women look like men, to me. That isn't right or wrong by itself.

ParticipantIt's quite natural that many of the female bodybuilders are androgynous even before they start working out – not to mention drug usage – so it's not a wonder you see this kind of physiques among them. It's even possible that they actually are transsexual but don't consider surgeries needed for their transmission but find this type of body comfortable for them.

ParticipantWhat the hell is this competition? Both of them look like dudes, what a massive turn off.
I'm glad that I've seen these photos for one reason – I'll never complain loudly about the Ms.O finallists ever again! Next to these two, they look like Cindy Crawford! ::)
Seriously, I wonder whether this is a BBing event for those with intersex medical conditions, or those who are undergoing gender realignment surgery? I'm not just going by the hairstyles either – this Wang looks blokier than me, and the other one isn't far behind herhim.

As you may know, the majority of FEMALE bodybuilders these days have corrective surgery ;
Breast Implants/
QUESTION: are Breast Implants the devise used to make woman's bodybuilding more feminine?If so .. that would be sending out a message to all women who want to compete in the sport of bodybuilding…
" excel in bodybuilding as much as you like, just as long as you have a doctor surgically alter your physique with 2 breast implants…just so you don't confuse anyone".
Bodybuilding is full of double standards, purely on the fact that it's an exhibition sport.
Personally I think human genetics are taking a HUGE leap forward and all nay sayers are holding the sport of bodybuilding back. Ya know… it was less then 30 yrs ago when everyone said Bev Francis was a dude too and she's regarded ( at least in my book) as a tail blazer in the sport of Bodybuilding!

Personally I think what you're saying here is that, even though Bodybuilding is a sport, female bodybuilding should objectify woman as "sexual objects" and NOT athletes.

ParticipantI think it is a little eccentric to think that this "Wang" chick is going to be a trail blazer for the future. This is a new level a 'masculine' that is in all honesty gross. Huge muscles for the sake of having huge muscles is in my personal opinion, not healthy. There are plenty of women with enormous muscles that still look feminine and have facial beauty. Cindy Phillips, Britt Miller, Heather Armbrust, Gina Davis. Hell even the biggest one Iris Kyle still looks like a woman and she is HUGE.
How is Caroline Wang any better than Iris Kyle? He's not AND he looks like a man, it is unnecessary to change the gender of your body to achieve massive muscles. Women can still get big and look female, those competitors do not and in all honesty look disgusting.
There is an unhealthy amount of people here that have an unhealthy obsession with muscles, muscles, MUSCLES, and ignore the fact that the most muscular one's end up looking like dudes. I could imagine that "Wang" could be perfect for a lesbian fantasy where she can be the dude and society wouldn't question it. But for the people who are hetero, it would be my worst nightmare if these competitors became the standard of female bodybuilding. I would immediately excuse myself from ever watching any updates or news on the sport if these were the "future."
Also, not all FBB's need to get implants! Annie R. has 0 implants and she still looks like a beautiful female! So that comment that all female bodybuilders need to get implants is completely wrong. There are plenty of women that do not have implants and do just fine. Katka also doesn't have any implants and she is ripped, big, and gorgeous. So this fascination with "Wang" is baffling to me.
