You are kidding Lingster?!  They're famously c*** ever since they were privatised.

Hey, i got a joke from a buddy who works at the SNCF(french trains)who told me that since you got privatised, the rails were different from one company to the other… ;D
Then, it might be propaganda to avoid OUR trains to be privatised :-

The trains are from one company, and the track they run on, the stations they stop at and the signals the drivers obey are someone else's.  Trust me, xe fly, you DO NOT want your nation's railways privatised – vive l'SNCF!

The Major government knew it was going to lose the election and decided to fuck Labour over. The way in which British Rail was privatised was a fucking disgrace.

Precisely – they wanted to do it 'cos they thought that market forces were the magic panacea.  They knew they were going to lose in '97 but couldn't bring themselves to act reasonably – by pushing it through, they killed two birds with one stone:

    1.  They got their own way

    and

    2.  As the Prophet says, they got a chance to stitch-up Labour.

The same thing happened with the Millennium Dome.  Blair could see it was a white elephant, but Major's wonderous ministers had left him in a position where it was a fait accompli.  Bloody Tories. >:( ;D

I'd broadly disagree with both you on the Millenium Dome. Tony Blair clearly saw it as part of his legacy… and the scale of the project was considerably increased by New Labour, of course when it all started to become obvious it was just a big sink of money, Tony and Mandy just tried to say it was something they'd been lumped with – which of course wasn't remotely true.

The real problem with British Rail was the WAY it was privatised… separating the tracks and trains was just idiocy.

But this has all gone horribly off-topic.
