Well, many people object to the use of embryonic life for stem cells in the treatment of illnesses such as cystic fibrosis, Parkinson's etc., so this is an alternative. Might I point-out that many of the objectioners are American Christians?
As for the idea of using bone marrow stem cells to let same-sex couples have kids; well, that it more contentious.

"Yes, there are children raised by single parents through all sorts of circumstances, but when you are talking about deliberately creating children in that way, that is morally wrong."
Now i'm reminded why i threw away my morals in favor of logic…

So, yes – men are pretty much unnecessary.

You only need to watch Have I Got News For You to get an idea of how sensationalistic the Mail is these days.
