Mixi

The promised time has arrived!  I've alluded to this site before, but finally have time to hammer out a post about it.  Mixi describes itself as a "Social Networking Service" and is the most popular so-called SNS in Japan.  This Japanese version of Facebook and MySpace differs in a few key areas, however.  One of the main differences is that the network is invite-only, so you can't create an account unless you know someone that has one already.  Another difference is people on Mixi typically only add friends they know personally and have met face-to-face.  I should probably also mention that the site is all in Japanese, so a little knowledge in the language will go a long way.  Luckily, people have put up some good pages with tips on navigating, and tutorials on getting started with pictures.

So why would you want to get an account on Mixi?  Well for starters, a lot of the Japanese artists that I've mentioned before have Mixi accounts and will post things there that they don't at other sites.  There's a treasure trove of art that's just waiting to be mined.  You'll need an account to access these links, some artists on Mixi include: Purukogi, Dairoku Tenmaou, Rebis, Trump and Double-H among others.

You'll find a lot of artwork that you probably haven't seen before.  A particular favorite of mine is the MIXI Muscular Women Community, which contains some wonderful artwork.  I'm including some samples below:
