I asked DCM a long time ago if I had permission to model out Tetsuko and he said ok. I tried a couple times, but the model never came out right and I set the project aside.. recently, I ran across a technique that I've been able to actually get somewhere with and here's what I've got so far. What do you all think?

April 14, 2009 at 3:26 am #8233910-4ParticipantLooks like you are off to a good start.
April 14, 2009 at 3:41 am #82340The RiddleParticipantI love watching the modeling process; the beginning stages always remind me of Tool videos.
On subject, though, that is looking very promising. Just don't give up on it!
April 14, 2009 at 7:04 pm #82341David C. MatthewsParticipantVery good start! You're on the right track. I'll be following your progress with great interest.
April 15, 2009 at 5:35 am #82342ReasonParticipantI've got 2 words for you… "3D-PRINT"!
It looks like your're using NURBS, right? Probably a good choice for an anime-style model. Anyway, it's looking good so far and I hope you keep posing updates of your progress.
April 15, 2009 at 10:13 pm #82343TolanParticipantFirst, an update.
It's coming along nicely, I think… It's hard to judge how her head is shaped due to all the hair 😀 and I'll go back later and add her ears. Now some replies.
Thanks for all of your comments!DCM, I'll try to do you proud. 🙂
Reason, it'd be awesome to get Tetsuko 3d-printed, but it's up to DCM (which I could only hope he'd say yes). And to answer your question, I'm not modeling specifically with NURBS… I actually don't know much about NURBS, but I'm modeling one polygon at a time, pretty much, then I slap the turbosmooth modifier on it. If the modifier turns it into NURBS, then I guess I am to an extent.
April 16, 2009 at 1:45 am #82344David C. MatthewsParticipantWell, I can tell you her head is not unusually shaped, so anything you come up with should be OK. I'd maybe fill out the temples just a little bit.
How good is your modeling program at hair? That's going to be the problem, I think.
Feel free to note me if you have any questions. I'd love to see this model be as good as can be. And you're off to a great start.

Do you mean indent them some or do I have them indented a little too much?

Well..it's good at doing hair, but when I tried using the system, it came out bad… but that's just how good I am with the system… I don't know if the hair is static or dynamic tho. If all else fails, I can poly-model the hair and I think it'd look good…same goes for clothing.
Feel free to note me if you have any questions. I'd love to see this model be as good as can be. And you're off to a great start.
Sure will and thanks! Actually, I'm going to send you one sometime today, so expect one! ;D
April 16, 2009 at 12:21 pm #82346ReasonParticipantWow great progress there, Tolan. I agree with Dave that her forehead could be a little more rounded. Also, I'm thinking that the chin and nose could be a bit pointier and her lips a bit more defined and fuller. Perhaps you could post profile and front-on shots as well, so we can better check out the likeness. Also the rim around the eyes looks a bit unnatural, but perhaps you haven't got around to modeling the eyelids yet.
I found some good reference pictures from Dave's comics here, but perhaps he has a some sort of character sheet or something he could send you.

http://www.dcmstudiosonline.com/comics/tetsuko/issue02/tko02_pg01.htmlAs for the hair, I've heard that there is quite a learning curve with hair plugins, but the results can be spectacular. Check out this example

What modelling program are you using, by the way. -
