I posted this over at FTF10 but it's worth posting about it at length here. I suppose there are spoilers in here, if you're worried about that kind of thing but really… the watching is the fun part.
I watched "My Big Breasts And Me" in the anticipation that it was just going to be another hour of three women with large breasts running to the nearest surgeon and having them unceremoniously hacked off. Let's say, I was pleasantly surprised.
Let's see – I know Gaigebacca will be howling at the moon when he hears the stats…
There was a music student who was 5'1" and a 28K…
Photographer who was a 36EE, although by the end of the show we discover she's a G…
And a mother of two who was 4'11" and a 34GG.
It started out with the normal "people think bigger is better" warning and then went on to show us the three women and elaborated upon how their life was not greatly improved by having huge boobs.
However, the show was actually rather even handed and it didn't flat out say – surgery is the only option. It suggested the three courses of action one could undertake were… learn to accept your outlandish breasts, diet and exercise or surgery.
So, three approaches and three women – handy, eh?
The mother of two tried out the exercise regime and it seemed to work for her, improved posture and a reduction (about 1.5") in her breast size that she seemed quite happy with.
The photographer wanted to be a model as well, so they got her into a better fitting bra and sent her off to a photoshoot with some other quite pneumatic models (though, not as much as she) and they all fawned over her and said "Wow, you're so lucky!" And that somehow magically precipitated her negative self-image improving somewhat.
The music student seemed to be – or at least the show gave the impression she was – the most beset by problems. She was complaining of back problems and neck problems and was the only one of the three that was seriously considering surgery… to the point she let a sleazy German doctor draw on her boobs and pinch her nipples (not kidding).
She was clearly in two minds about the whole thing but you got the impression she was actually taking the time to learn about it – and the show did make it clear that breast reductions are major surgery. She even went to see a friend who had had a reduction four years previously…
To be honest, that girl probably convinced her not to do it. Not because of what she said – she was singing the praise of the operation, liked the easy life and had never looked back – but because of how she looked. The girl's main worry was scaring and her friends breasts were scartastic… actually, even without the scars they looked plain awful… plus, I had to ask… if she wanted to reduce the size of her breasts, why didn't she try exercising first?
Anyway, after some humming and hoing, she went to see a physiotherapist and she apparently told her all these things that would alleviate the pain and such. So, having realised that and feeling that she was pretty young, she decided that she wasn't going to have the surgery for some years to come.
So, it pretty much finished with all three women saying that they were much happier about themselves. Hoorah.
Highlights include several bra fittings, jiggling and some girls stuffing their bras to simulate the experience of going out in public with huge boobs.
Ok, so not girls going "Man, big tits are awesome – I hope they get bigger." But certainly better than I had expected.
Here's a link
It has been aired but as it was on BBC3, there's every chance it'll repeat either on BBC3 or BBC2… Though, copies are floating around on the Internet but we shall say no more about that here.
