I’m not sure if I’m a “tenured contributer”, but I’ll forge on nonetheless…

To celebrate the Queen’s diamond jublies, HMV (which I assume is the music retailer), conducted a poll, asking poeple to identify the best British album of the last 60 years. All the usual suspects were in the top ten…

    Adele at number 9… Blech!
    Several Beatles albums… Ho-hum!
    Pink Floyd… Yawn!
    Oasis… Sorry, who?
Queen… Well, I guess it’s better than nothing.

Then I read who came in at number 1… and in the middle of the lunch-room at work, all I could yell was “Up the Irons!”.

Yes, “The Number Of The Beast” was voted the best British record of the last 60 years! Any country that would hold a metal album in such high regard is okay in my book. So clean up the spare room and break out the trundle bed, England – I’m on my way over.

How about Led Zeppelin IV? Greatest album, greatest band, end of story.

I’m from Inverness up in the Scottish highlands, which means I classify as British (at least for now).

Apologies for thread necromancy, but yes – I’m British, so is Kulli, and there used to be several of us here. Despite many American’s image of the UK as a tiny windswept rock with a population smaller than an average US city, we’re actually (in the south at least) rather cramped – there are 60 million+ people in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).
