I did this piece a few weeks ago (before the last few images I posted), but I was a bit gunshy on posting it here: it's a topless shot. I rarely do topless art; in virtually all cases I consider it unnecessary in the kind of art I do, but for some reason, the tone and mood I tried to capture in this piece seemed to indicate that the image would benefit from it. All the various tops I tried to give her just seemed to detract from the aura of the piece, so I did away with them, and bare-chested she is. It's a not-so-typical woman (tattooed, pierced, and shredded) caught in a private, thoughtful moment of self-admiration; it's a bit more realistic than my usual art (more along the lines of 'Fourth'), with more detailed linework and more plausible proportion. Despite being topless in this image, she's flat-chested, which is a rarity for me but appropriate for adding to the concept of being more of a real person.
This piece was inspired by the thought of 'What is beauty?' Surely, most people would be frightened by a woman looking like this, yet there are those who would find her exquisite. But I always ask myself, where is that line drawn? What factors contribute to this? Is the fact that someone looks so different from established norm exactly what makes them attractive to some while appearing scary to others? It's amazing how perceptions vary from person to person, and in this piece I tried to convey a sense of narcissistic self-captivation, in much the way these women captivate their admirers. It's probably the closest thing to 'art' that I've ever done; even though it's not all that different from my usual work, I think you'll see where I'm coming from when I say it 'feels' different.

May 16, 2006 at 6:03 pm #28507The_Pimp_NeonBlackParticipant'Tis truly a great illustration, dear Christopher, though not Nacissism in the true sense.
Your subject is self-absorbed enough but in more of a Hedo-Narcistic fashion. A true and utter Narcisist is not only self-absorb but also believes that they are the acme of prefection and would not result to alterations such as piercings and tattoos.
In some cases a Narcisist would and will alter their body with such augmentations as muscles and implanets but these are more for their own gratification than any party or society as a whole.
So, on a whole, your subject merely seems self-absorbed and self-gratifying (hence the piercing and tattoos) than purely Narcistic inthe clinical sense. That being said, still a fantastic work none-the-less.
Kudos unto you.
Peace
The Pimp NeonBlackMay 16, 2006 at 9:23 pm #28508supremeParticipantA wonderfully erotic and sensual drawing. When I look at her my imagination runs wild; I see her standing over an unconscious boxing opponent(a male bodybuilder!) she has just KO'd in a bare-knuckled cage match…
It's really good art when your creation sends the people who see it to so many different places…
Thanks for posting.

May 17, 2006 at 1:59 am #28510Dr.OttoParticipantIf people are gonna stare, there might as well be a good reason. 😀
Thanks also for the detail on the essence of narcissism; I guess I was thinking more along the lines of the self-admiration aspect rather than the perfection that most true narcissists feel they have to achieve. :p
May 19, 2006 at 4:05 am #28511trilliwigParticipantShe looks fascinated, and fascinating. If I were her I'd look at myself too. 😀 I love the "No Regrets" tattoo as well.
May 19, 2006 at 8:39 pm #28512TigersanParticipantShe's marvelling her own mightyness. Lovely. I love your work Otto. 🙄
