NBC has given a cast-contingent pilot order to a reimagined version of the 1970s TV series The Bionic Woman, from Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick, Variety reported. Eick is co-writing and co-producing the project with Laeta Kalogridis (The Dive).

Eick has said that he's been combing through the library at Universal, where his production company is based, to find another title to revive following Battlestar. The original version of The Bionic Woman—a spinoff of The Six Million Dollar Man— starred Lindsay Wagner as a woman whose body is mechanically enhanced to save her life.

This could be good, if the results of revitalizing "Galactica" are any indication.

But what bothers me is the indication that this producer had been "combing through the library at Universal…  to find another title to revive[.]" Whatever happened to coming up with your own ideas? (Yes, I know… Hollywood, creative bankruptcy, yada yada.)

When they go combing through the library, as a fellow who understands film and TV.  When they're doing that it means two things, either this guy is interested in resurrecting something and making it cool again or he's really out of ideas.

Personally I am interested in resurrecting Airwolf as a movie for a new generation, I'm not out of ideas but I would love to see that black helicopter flying in the sky again.

Not crazy about the idea of a Bionic Woman that doesn't tie-in with a new Six Million(or Billion)Dollar Man. That's like doing a new Girl from U.N.C.L.E. without there being a new Man from U.N.C.L.E. Let's hope this is better than the black Kojak.

I saw info on this a while ago. The synopsis at the time was that it "…Eick tells Variety the show will use the heroine's technology-enhanced abilities as a metaphor to explore how professional women juggle multiple roles." Ot was also reported "…producer Eick wants to step away from militarism/terrorism and explore how a contemporary woman leads a professional career while keeping her bionic powers a secret." That sounds incredibly boring, but hopefully won't be so bad.

    U.K.'s Ryan Is Bionic Woman

After an exhaustive search, NBC has chosen British actress Michelle Ryan for the lead role of Jamie Sommers in its upcoming Bionic Woman pilot, Variety reported. The network reported considered better-known stars, but ultimately went with someone who'll be a newcomer to most American viewers, the trade paper reported.

Ryan is known in the United Kingdom for having spent five years on the long-running BBC serial EastEnders.

OK, seriously, there's nothing like taking something good and making it better.  True, many sci-fi heads deemed the original Galactica as "Battlestar ExLaxia" and other uncomplimentary stuff.  I haven't seen the remake, but have heard lots of good things.  I hope they use the same care here…

Just one thing… why no remake of the Six Million Dollar Man?  (and how much would said Man cost in 21st century dollars?)

There's been talk for quite some time of a feature film remake. The rumored title is the Six Billion Dollar Man. A comedic take came thisclose to being made starring Jim Carrey. Thankfully, it died on the vine. Supposedly this is why a dvd release of the original series is being held up-Universal wants to tie-in a release with a feature film debut.
