As far as PCC goes, I pull in about $3000 a year in desktop donations, but I don't think I could do that with just a random wallpaper assortment of marginally female freakshows. It's CHARACTERS that readers for attachments to, regardless of cup size or bicep girth (which is part of the reason I want to develop Britt as a character project outside of PCC…sure, she may be a mammoth, but it's the personality side that people will become attached to). I think where a lot of people get frustrated with femuscle art is that they feel they can just throw up the flavor of the week bursting chains, tossing tanks, or chewing through granite and expect to gain a large following, and unfortunately that isn't how it works. Sure, there's a market for that and if that's your thing, by all means, enjoy. But over time you'll discover that it's not the feats of strength that bring people back; in fact, it's when you reveal that these freaks of nature have flaws, weaknesses, hopes, dreams, and desires that you'll start noticing that people's interest is growing.
That's it!!!!

October 20, 2005 at 2:04 pm #15140VicParticipantI'd have to say that this little niche doesn't need any more "turn the little guy into a pulp" stories. Having Britt do strength feats however is quite alluring, i'd be glad to pay for that. I might also suggest that instead of twice a week how about bi-weekly. This might relieve some pressure to produce constantly. I generally read alot of Star Trek fan fiction, and many excellent writers end up hitting the wall pretty quickly if they try to deliver once a week. Although it might be too long of a stretch, once a month might work if the monthly chapter were fairly long.

I know I've been wanting to do an on-line strip for a long time, but without at least the promise of some financial reward I just couldn't put one day away for this. Besides the comics page, there should also be pin-ups on a regular basis, but I guess that would indeed be the easy part.
I think the most important thing would be to have a dedicated editor/webmaster/middle-man, who would actually run the show from backstage. Is that what you had in mind, Lingster?October 20, 2005 at 3:50 pm #15142Dr.OttoParticipantI'd have to say that this little niche doesn't need any more "turn the little guy into a pulp" stories. Having a circus background, showboating is something she'd do best. :p Since I generally deal in wallpaper sized stuff, each one would likely be good as a desktop.

Yes, that's what I had in mind, Yatz. I have the ability to run such a site and the temperament to pester people on deadlines. I would also reserve the right to terminate the enterprise if the artists weren't holding up their end, because I wouldn't want to be associated with something that wasn't delivering the promised value to subscribers.
To Chris' point, I think characterization would be very important. I wasn't explicit with that detail, but this would absolutely have to be story-driven serial comic work, not simply art postings.
If the site caught on, I would be willing to add some kind of commission or art market component and pass all net revenue (gross minus payment provider fees) back to the artists.

Of course piracy is still going to be an issue. Yhaoo Groups and Peer to Peer networks will take their toll on any enterprise like this. Toss in a little competition from established pay sites like LH-Art and other assorted providers and it seems likely this will be one very tough job.
CM had a good point that I have tried making (to little avail) that having characters that are a wee bit more complicated then the typical stereotype is what keeps the folks coming back on a regular basis. It’s one of the few ways to reach to a wider audience beyond the niche of sexual attraction. What folks may have not noticed is how limiting the stereotype can be to us artists. It’s as if every single story, character trait, and casual reference needs to be directly linked to extreme physical strength. It can be extremely frustrating when a story idea goes in different direction.

This is exactly what I've done with Andrah. Mind you, she's not mainstream by any stretch, but she's found a lot of acceptance with my readers (most of whom are not involved in the subculture) and is a fan favorite. In the ten years I've had her online, she's never really done anything violent or strength-focused at all; in fact, nobody knew what her strength limit was until I'd told them. She's a character that' been purely driven by her heart and mind…she's not massive just for the sake of it, she's an everyday person who just happens to BE that way.

They don't want to support artists with anything more than words. meanwhile the furry nationals spend money like it's going out of style. Hell they support several comic books but there wasn't enough money to convince wreck to stick around when he put up his paysite. It's the reason Awefilms stopped updating with stories.
Yeah, I'm still bummed about that. There was some great stuff there. I wanted more of AGENT JENNIFER. Someday maybe?
October 21, 2005 at 8:59 am #15147Dr.OttoParticipantActually, I think the real point is that there's just not that many people interested in JUST strength-oriented fare. I'm a firm believer that you can have these types of characters, but I also believe that there has to be more than just that.

That's what I was hoping to do with Paladins. It was originally a more mainstream story but for Awefilms I had to exand a bit on the sex from implied to right out in the open.
And the Piracy issue is a big one. "Why not wait for it on the peer to peer?" Well for the simple reason that if it's constantly stolen people will find some otherway to make money. Awefilms almost shut down at one point when they found entire vide and picture galleries up on the internet. Then what would happen? The content would disappear. There are other sites that people pass stuff around that are close to shutting down because of this.
