ParticipantHello everyone! Just thought I'd let everyone know that I picked up an anthology comic that came out this week called Superman: Through the Ages and one of the stories it features is Superman #7: Rampage which features a heavily built gal kicking Superman's butt all over the place. I'll admit, I was kind of sad when Superman had to absorb all of her excess energy and shrink her down to normal :'(.
We probably have scans up from it in other threads, but even then, I highly recommend checking it out. It's on sale for $3.99. (That's $4.23 if you factor in sales tax.)

ParticipantHmmmm…. Maybe Rampy is STILL in continuity and didn't "die" in Infinite Crisis! ;D ;D ;D

ParticipantOh yeah, maybe that's why they put her in there!
Although I have to say, I was shocked to learn of her origin story; I created a character last year and, sadly, she has almost the EXACT SAME ORIGIN STORY.
She was also working on a machine to solve the world's energy problems and it also exploded and turned her into a towering amazon. Stupid John Byrne, beating me to the punchline twenty years ago. Hasn't he cornered the market on super women enough with She-Hulk? ???
But yeah, I'd be all for more Rampage in the current comics. Geeky amazons rule!

fasolaParticipantGuys, that's just an anthology of old supes stories, it just shows how the character and the concept evolved through the years.
It is not part of any DC actual continuity.
Thanks for the heads-up titaneer, but thankfully I have the original comic where rampage first appeared.June 13, 2007 at 11:30 pm #53728Chuck

Lucky! Although a reprint of it is still nothing to make light of 😉

ParticipantPlus, you have to wonder why of all the stories they showed of Superman's character evolving throughout the years, why pick this one of him going head to head with a big half naked amazon? Not that I'm complaining, but it did make me wonder.
For instance, it really is an odd assortment of tales that they've put in here. They have his first story from Action comics (always a crowd pleaser), then they retell his origin story, then the Rampage bit, and finally his origin story again and then a few cool covers.
No Lex Luthor. No Brainiac. If I was going for a comic that showcased him throughout the years, I certainly wouldn't have put a story about Rampage in there, especially since it takes up the bulk of the comic.
You can't say that they were doing it to ape She-Hulk because there's no mention of Rampage on the cover, so the casual person would pass by it and the die-hard Superman reader would take it and go, "Rampage? WTF, mate!" So Rampage certainly isn't a selling point…
Any ideas? It's still a nice reprint :).

ParticipantI agree, it seems unusual to put her in an anthology series detailing the evoloution of the character. There are so many other stories they could have used. I suggest that Rampy's in there because the character is a woman who could beat Superman and that eventually she will be rebooted in the new DCU.
Probably as an out and out "psycho" villian though. :-

ParticipantBack from Vegas after a week long sabatical….
The interesting thing about Rampage is if you look at her origin, it is basically a retelling of the origin of the Hulk. Geeky scientist accidently having a bomb go off and getting bathed in radiation turning into a mindless brute who is orange rather than green.
Rampage predates She-Dragon by at least five years (nobody said that that author, "Name Withheld" was Mr. Originality but that's for another topic at another time).
John Byrne had just left the Hulk when he took over Superman and possibly having a Supes vs. Hulk battle without using the jolly green giant.
Still… any chance to have a muscular amazon in a comic is good enough for me. 😀

ParticipantRampy was MEANT to be the resident "Hulk" of the DCU. But they backpedaled fast. Although PAD during his Supergirl run suggested Rampy was in fact a "repressed" lesbian, giving I suppose a psychological rationale for Kitty's metamorphosis like he did Bruce Banner's.
