How about something some what dark; such as Fantasy Flight's "Midnight." setting. I've always been a closet fan of the whole Revolution/Evil Empire(or Evil Deity, wahtever) bit.
I'm not familiar with Fantasy Flight… can I ask for a little clarification? Are you talking about a revolution against a just/basically-good kingdom, or revolution against an Evil Empire/Deity? That is, PCs as heroes or as villains? My personal preference is for PCs as heroes, incidentally, despite the somewhat more limited range of choices that can present (a moral compass means having to consider more than just the practical outcomes of any given course of action…)
I'm happy to come up with all sorts of background stuff, but it might be useful if some general guidelines were tossed out…

Fantasy has some serious opportunities for FMG, what with strength potions, magic items that boost the weilder's strength, spells for both enhancement and transformation, etc. Years ago, I was into RPG's, even was part of a few PBeM Champions campaigns, but burned out when I made the mistake of accepting an offer for a chance to GM. Coulda been because I was floundering about in uncharted waters(literally, it was the first undersea campaign, set in the as yet undocumented sunken city of Atlantis, still inhabited and defended from threats both internal and external by the Player characters) as I tried to make the setting as I went, or it could just be because I'm not organized to keep track of everything. My first attempt at GMing was also a disaster, or was it the second? Been so long, I can't remember which one was first. This other one being a standard campaign like many others in the shared game world we were playing in.
Anyway, I have accepted that I stink as a GM. However, I believe I can have some serious fun as a player, particularly in an amazon-themed RPG.

January 11, 2010 at 4:27 am #88854yaracyrrah80ParticipantI veto dark :-). I should have mentioned that up front, sorry.
My lazy idea, unless someone suggests something better, is to allow a variety of characters by declaring that all y'all are mercenaries/adventurers who just happen to sign on to the same job. Hijinks will ensue. Each of you can then assume whatever home culture you need for your character and I'll put it somewhere on the map.
Regarding rules: since lefred's system isn't ready for primetime, we'll use mine, which is very simple. I'll accept characters written in any system I can make heads or tails of, or no system at all. I'll start writing up an explanation of how outcomes are determined in play–hint: it occasionally involves regular polyhedra or emulations thereof–but in the meantime you can start building your characters any way you like.
Questions?
January 11, 2010 at 6:13 am #88855stmercy2020ParticipantI'm assuming DnD (AD&D, DnD 3.x, DnD 4.0) is acceptable; do you have any preferences at all in order to make your life easier? Also, should we be creating (essentially) starting characters (no powers, superhuman skills, limited outrageousness for stats) or should we be aiming for more advanced bad-assery?
Because I can't help myself, I'll chime in with my personal preference that all characters (or, at least, all player-characters) start off as normal- maybe slightly above-average- peoples with little or no experience. Puts us in a good position to learn about the world as we go along and nobody ends up being too uber when compared to other characters…
January 11, 2010 at 7:12 am #88856Matthew SichermanParticipantWhat exactly is the plan for the Amazon content? Should we make Amazon characters, regular characters in anticipation of growth opportunities later, just female characters, just male characters, any of the above?
January 11, 2010 at 11:09 am #88857the fell batParticipantyeah following on that, how much sex is there gonna be? :p is it gonna be straight up fantasy RP and just incidentally amazonian, or is there gonna be lots of woohoo?
also, how about white wolf system?
January 12, 2010 at 7:06 am #88858yaracyrrah80ParticipantAny D&D is fine. (Don't feel restricted to D&D's box, though.) White Wolf is fine. I personally like Mutants & Masterminds (2E), but that's less common.
Re: Amazon content. Sex will be strictly optional ("amazonness" is about power, not sex, at least as I use the term); I'm okay with an R rating but not X. I was assuming that all of the PCs would be female, but I'm reluctant to mandate that. If your character is female you can choose whether to be amazonian from the outset or whether I should arrange for growth in your near future.
Re: power level. I personally find low-level play a bit dull (especially in D&D), but I don't get a vote. My system is flexible enough to accommodate a relatively wide range of power levels; my default plan was to let everyone submit what they want and negotiate regression to the mean if necessary. (Superwoman would not fly, pun intended.) If you all would rather reach a consensus in advance, that's fine too. Opinions?
