    Oh I'm sorry. You've all read his mail so you must know how many letters he's gotten asking why there's a hole in her costume or if it was just to show cleavage.

    Guess that teaches me not to underestimate your psychic abilities.

    The hole was, I believe, first drawn there by Wally Wood.  Wood, God bless his soul, was a notorious titman.  The story goes that he drew her breasts larger each issue, to see how much he could get away with.  So the reason there's a hole is to show cleavage.  Most Power Girl fans know that story.

    Spider-Man got his powers and name from a fly crawling up a wall and from a pulp comic.

    The canon explanation is that he got bit by a spider and it was the obvious choice. Just as the canon explantion for Power Girl is the symbol.

    Well, it's canon now but, before this disappointing story arc, there never was an explanation, not that there really needed to be one.

    They'll probably cover it up with the Earth 2 Superman pentagon emblem when Infinite Crisis is all over with, or at least alter the hole to make it the same shape as the shield. 

    Darn.

    The reason she's successful as a character is because she's sexy.  Part of that is because of her costume, which is why DC has consistently returned to the basic model of it – white unitard with a hole or a scoop, red cape, belt, gold medallion or medallions.  They might mess with the formula from time to time, but they'll always return to it, for as long as it works.
