I know he's touched on the subject of BBing in the past, and more recently Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), so maybe he's become a fan of Irene Andersen.  8)

From what I have seen from my side of the pond of Michael "Savage" Weiner, I can't understand the man.  A scientist by training who seemed quite "New Age", then rebelled against that and became a homophobic, controvertial radio host.  FBBing is the last thing I could ever imagine him liking, but Alex seems to have found a connection. 😮

How do I answer this without offending . . . we are friends, after all.

From what I have seen from my side of the pond of Michael "Savage" Weiner, I can't understand the man.

That's because you're not an American.  I’m not saying you’d immediately like him, if you listened to him, but in time you’d find him growing on you – this, even if you disagreed with him.

A scientist by training who seemed quite "New Age", then rebelled against that

Not quite, he's still very much the scientist – in the truest sense of the word, and is proud of it.  If you ever listened to him analyze any given subject you'd know this to be the case.

    and became a homophobic,

Hardly – as he's repeatedly said on his program he could care less what people do behind closed doors.  If anything, he's an admittedly a sexual libertine where it concerns consenting adults.

    . . . controversial radio host.

That is true – especially where it concerns the free expression of options.  The 1st Amendment was NOT written to protect polite speech, but to protect speech that is controversial and thought provoking.

. . . FBBing is the last thing I could ever imagine him liking, but Alex seems to have found a connection. 😮

As I think I've previously mentioned, one of his bodyguards is/was a FBBr and a lesbian – interestingly enough, she and her partner are on the same political wavelength as he is.

Hmm, interesting, thought-provoking responses, Alex, thanks.  I do wonder about his views given that I heard him railing against anyone who dared voted against Prop 8 in California as people who wanted to kill the family.  To me, those are not the words of someone who doesn't worry about what happens behind closed doors, but there you go.  I've not heard him analyse things; so I'll take your word for it that he does.  I still find myself shaking my head at a lot of what he says, but I will say two things in his favour:

    1.  Other than Bill O'Reilly (whom I dislike strongly but begrudgingly respect in terms of his abilities as a broadcaster), he is the only of the conservative/Republican/right-wing radio/TV pundits who apear to me to have anything else in their heads other than cotton wool and wood shavings.  He is obviously a clever guy.

    2.  I (and most reasonable British moderates/liberals) were against our idiot Home Secretary's ban on him entering the country.  I agree 100% with your views on free speech, which is a noble tradition here and whose principles, I think, were behind the 1st Admendment.  He should have been welcomed here, then debated with nationally.  I'd like to have seen him appear on Question Time and intervewed by Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight in depth about his beliefs.
