I've been lurking this board for some time, but have yet to post any artwork. I'm starting to feel a bit guilty about that, so I decided to give you guys a preview of something I've been working on- a flash-based muscular "dress-up doll".
click here: http://www.momirfarooq.com/site/x/flexy.swfA couple of quick notes:
1. no, this is NOT the completed doll. This was just a quick test to see what was feasible and what was not. I originally planned to have the doll breathe and to move her arms in a couple poses (with the selected costume ripping off her), but that proved too complicated. At least for now. Hopefully, she'll look a lot better by the time I'm done.
2. She has no hands becuase hands are hard to draw, and they weren't neccessary for the test. She will have them at some point.
3. There's no pre-loader, and the link is straight to the raw *.SWF file, so don't get too upset if it doesn't display properly in your browser.
4. The coding is not complete. Right now, each button displays a different face/hair/clothing option. Eventually, they will cycle through multiple choices.
5. Don't ask me when it's going to be finished. I have no idea. But I will keep you updated.I've got several ideas for costumes, hair styles, faces, background art, etc. But if you have any ideas for me, then let me know.

November 25, 2005 at 10:48 am #18418FonkParticipantHey, that's a great idea! 😀 It's going to be really cool when you finish.
November 25, 2005 at 1:51 pm #18419peteParticipantTHAT I like …really simple, really effective …well done
November 27, 2005 at 12:39 pm #18420gblock01ParticipantI agree. Very well done. The idea is great, and I can't wait to see what else you add to it.
November 29, 2005 at 2:06 am #1842110-4ParticipantThat’s a cool little flash toon.
November 29, 2005 at 5:56 am #18422Amazon LoverParticipantSo far, so good! Keep it up! 😀
BTW, so long as you're asking for suggestions, might I suggest an option that allows you to change the girl's skin color? Options might include pale, African-American, tan, Andrah-blue, She-Hulk-green, and Lu-gray… heh heh!
November 29, 2005 at 9:59 am #18423higalackParticipantLol, looks like species is a new option. 😀
(hope this doesnt crash again)November 30, 2005 at 8:03 am #18424–ParticipantYep, after posting, I decided that skin color and species would make for interesting choices. Species proved a little harder than I thought, becuase the elf ears didn't look right with the hair, so I ended up having to break the hair into 2 seperate layers- a front and a back.
Now I'm running into a problem with skin color- again it's those damn elf ears. Because the ears are on a seperate layer than the body, I'm trying to figure out what would be the most efficient way to keep track of both at the same time. Right now, I think the best options are:
1) have skin color be it's own layer, and make the body perform doubleduty as both mask and visible layer. That way, the skin will show through nomatter what the body looks like.
2) have multiple colored bodies, and multiple colored ears, and use some variable to make sure that the 2 colors always match up.
I'm leaning towards option 1 becuase it'll mean I can make changes to the body design later on, but it might make shading more difficult.
Of course, I could side-step the whole problem and not have any elf ears, but I think elf girls are cool!I also seem to have a problem with the scripting of the buttons. The right arrows work just fine. The left arrows don't work like they're supposed to, and for the life of me I can't figure out why. Does anyone here know how to write these scripts?

I know quite a bit about programming and a little about action script in particular. There are a number of ways you could be trying to implement the button script and without knowing the specifics I can't help you too much. Also I have no idea what version of Flash you're using which also can make a difference.
If you want, email me or PM me through the message board with the specifics and I'd be happy to try to help you with the scripting.
