August 13, 2006 at 9:20 pm #36634Debido-SanParticipantheh, about BluRay, this is the same kinda crap that Sony has -tried- to pull but has failed. Sony is always trying to introduce a new form of media. Remember back in the time of VHS? Sony -had- a competition format for that, it was called "BetaMax"….where is it now? I dunno lol, probably only in Japan now, and it's rare there too I hear…
These days, Sony's little adventure is the UMD, for the PSP…heh, that's going down the drain pretty quickly as well. They make UMD games and movies, however I've heard that Target stores will stop carrying the movies…I wonder why…hmm…maybe it's because there's not enough people with a PSP in the first place. Or maybe it's because people with a PSP would probably still grab the DVD instead…I mean come on, yeah, the movie is portable…but can you not wait until you get home to see the same movie on a screen about 50 million times larger?
XD that's just my little spill on BluRay, PS3 looks amazing, but along with BluRay as an expensive format for all different sources of media, and the rumor of the PS3 disabling the use of Rented, Borrowed, and Used games, things are definently gonna be rough…Shoot, in that commercial that Lingster posted, the bodies could have been switched and it would have been pretty much the same, as long as the PS3 girl's personality was in the Wii girl's body, and vice-versa…prettier to look at, but still damn expensive, and a bit harder to find something to entertain you.
😛 I know how to ramble when I wanna
August 13, 2006 at 10:14 pm #36635TC2ParticipantSince I did some reading let's shoot down some rumors.
1.) I read somewhere that the blu-ray will NOT lock into someone's PS3, meaning that you could use different systems to read blue ray.
2.) Blue-ray players are backwards compatible meaning you could play your old DVD movies on them.
I don't get what they're talking about with the "how many buttons you need to push to make me work" thing. Does that mean that the PS3 is going to have some sort of activation code? If not, there is nothing complicated about the PS2 controller which is going to end up becoming the PS3 controller.
They shouldn't have used a fat woman either, they should have used a bodybuilder.

I think they were just saying that to explain that the Wii's controller is supposed to be more user friendly than the PS3's more traditional controller design. As for mythoughts on the upcomming console war; $600 is just too much for a console right now, especially one that probably won't be getting that many exclusive games. I mean let's face it most of the games on PS3 are going to be straight ports from the 360 or PC. Also I can't name a single PS3 launch title, while I know for a fact that the Wii is going to have an enormous launch. Ubisoft already stated that they'll be releasing 10 launch titles, Activision I think is releasing 3, and I'm sure Nintendo will release a couple. That's 15+ launch titles and we've only mentioned three publishers. Not to mention you could probably buy a Wii and seven of these games for the price of a PS3…with no games. Hell I could even get a Wii and an Xbox 360 for about the price of a PS3.
I think this fall I'll be playing Wii. PS3 not so much.

And if they had done that, no doubt there'd be some bitching about it around here.
August 15, 2006 at 5:48 am #36638LingsterKeymasterDon't forget the GPX2 and XGP. Also don't forget that OS X on the Mac is sufficiently thin, and the Intel dual processor core so fast, and the iMac sufficiently cheap, that console gaming may be doomed anyway. Right now the Mac Mini is useless for gaming because it has a crap graphics card. But I wouldn't be surprised if that was corrected in 2007, which will mean a high-end, superfast Mac gaming platform for $499. Sizzle!

(Off-camera, we hear heavy footsteps come closer. Tetsuko marches onto shot, steps in between PS3 and Wii.)
TETSUKO: Hi. I'm a PC. Sorry I'm late. Now these ladies are fine and dandy for what they can do (or WILL do next fall, rather), but I'm here for ya right now. I got oodles of games already, covering everything PS3 does and beyond. (For about the same price, too.) But if you want something light and fun like Wii, here, I'm there in a Flash. For FREE on the web, too.
(she puts on a hard hat and tool belt)
TETSUKO: And when playtime's over I won't sit in a corner when ya gotta go to work, either. Nope, if ya gotta paper to write, things to copy, numbers to crunch, a presentation to make or pretty up… I'm there for ya.
(Dr. Sonya Gannon walks in with some memory sticks, cards, and chips, flips up a panel on Sonya's back, starts plugging them in.)
TETSUKO: Also, these ladies can talk about how powerful they are, high in processor speed, graphics, sound, blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda. But that's all they're ever gonna have… until the NEXT console, anyway. Now, me…
(Sonya slaps the panel shut, zips out of the way. Tetsuko then grows taller, broader, more muscular and bodiced, bumping the other two out of the picture with her broadening hips.)
TETSUKO: …I'm upgradable.
(She leans forward, gives the viewer's screen a big kiss, leaving red lip marks.)TETSUKO: Dance with the one that brung ya, boys. 😉
CUT TO GRAPHIC: The PC. What You're Looking At Now.

If you mean "PC" as "machine that runs "Windows", then there's a problem with your scenario, Jimmy…
