ParticipantFor the love of all that is good and sweet keep it AWAY from water.
Okay, so for graduation this summer my sister got me this sexy, little hamdheld . Mp3 player, movie watcher, image viewer…I'm still not through with the manual ! While i had one game for it, for a time
it was good….Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. The Analog nub ( yes, nub…not stick as they so graciously call it) had been sticking, so I iget the bright idea "duhhhh. i'll wash the thing hurr hurr". With power on and battery firmly in it's compartment, i make my way to…the bathroom sink. ( Please I must ask that the audience hold all insults until the end of the presentation)
At first i'm pretty surgical about it, gentle strokes with a wet q-tip. The nub is moving smoothly when I notice how smudgy the screen is. Rather than walk the whole three feet to the linen closet to get a soft cloth to wet and wipe it down with, a light bulb " hmm, full blast with the cold water for two seconds should more than suffice". And suffice, it did.
Not five minutes later, the music track i'm listening to freezes, seconds later the entire system follows . The power switch doesn't turn it off, so i pull the battery out. The screen goes black. Panicing, I look in all the little crevices…water droplets in all of them. I attack valiantly with paper towel and q-tips, but to no avail. The little system just won't come back on. I leave it over night to dry.
Next morning, I pop the battery back in, plug in the charger. The power indicator comes on. I give it a a couple minutes, charge goes out. not a good sign. Uselessly, I hit the power. Nothing as expected.
So now my PSP sits on my nightstand, it's charger supplying energy that will never be used. It's true potential never realized.
" Since then, at an uncertain hour,
That agony returns;
And till my ghastly tale is told,
This heart within me burns. " – tell me about it.February 5, 2006 at 3:56 am #21970Cowprobe
ParticipantCertainly a unique way to segue into trying the Nintendo DS. 👿
Was this your very first handheld? 😕
Then again the old school white brick Gameboy was pretty tough when it came to exposure. 😛
Thank you for the warning.
You have my sympathies in so much as losing a gift given to you by a loved one. Having to tell them what happened to it or trying to cover up said occurrence from them is an emotional rollercoaster I'm much to short to ride. 😉

Sorry for being obvious but have you tried contacting Sony to see if they can fix the PSP?

ParticipantMaybe not but sometimes miracles do happened, have ha gameboys since the very first edition I swapped over to psp because of the DS was a bulky ( and I know they are stream lining it) but also the touch screen is going to go at some point it always does. Plus Sony kindly replaced my screen when I first got my PSP because it was their fault it failed.

The DS is a bit bulky, but the touch screen is very durable(meaning the kids who mess up the demo units are specifically trying to do so), and it's rarely your only option for playing a game.
Speaking of games, the DS actually has them. Which is a bit of a foreign concept to the PSP.

ParticipantI'm not sure what about the DS you're trying to insult there.

ParticipantFirst I have nothing but love for Nintendomy first handheld i got was a original gameboy and the last was a advance but Nintendo have said they don't mind the competition from Sony but they are aiming the DS at the younger gamer and considering how many they shifted at christmas bundled with Nitendogs a game that has been out on Ps One, Pc, and even Dreamcast in some shape or form all I am saying is both have there markets I just laugh when I see a Ds because it isn't anything special its just a modern Game and watch at twice the size and before any says it I know they are going to streamline but I think it could raise problems in doing so.
