KeymasterOne more thing: if you have any private messages with valuable information, make a copy of that info because I may need to dump the private message boxes.

ParticipantThank you for taking the time to keep us in the know.
The heads up regarding the private messages is just another fine example of your admin expertise.
Hopefully project "Gamma Mayhem" will work out. 8)

ParticipantDoes the warning about PM boxes mean that they will not be a feature of the revised site?

ParticipantNah, you will still have PM's but all the old messages are going to be cleared. PM's are a pain in the ass when it comes to forums so it's usually better to clear em out.

KeymasterYeah – private messaging will still exist as a feature, but there's about 40 or 50 megabytes of personal messages in the database that I'd just as soon get rid of. (Slows down the site.)
Also, I may use a different private message tool.
See, here's the dilemma. Joomla 1.5 is now out, but it's a big upgrade and Simple Machines Forum (our forum software) doesn't run with it yet. And may never. So if I want to get the new Joomla features, I have to use a different piece of software to run the forums. There's a new version of phpBB out that is compatible with Joomla 1.5 (this forum originally ran on phpBB, back in the day), and there's also a Joomla-specific forum called FireBoard that looks nice. I haven't decided which to use, yet.
Either way, I'm going to have to do a long, tedious conversion and reindexing, so I plan to purge everything I can before starting.
