ParticipantI just wanted to say what a great storie Arie has posted at brawna. I felt that I needed to post here because it is utterly impossible for me to get through the Captcha at brawna to let Arie know that I enjoyed his story.
I wonder how many others are having the same problem and if the authors feel that their efforts aren’t appreciated?

ParticipantI understand your frustration, but if Lingster were to turn off the captcha, the bots would overrun that site in minutes. It is a necessary evil.

ParticipantCW – Although Brawna has a lot of excellent stories, it seems the posting and commenting system is pretty bunk. Authors end up posting stories 4 or 5 times because they’re can’t be sure it’s gone through, and DAT CAPTCHA. I have tried to post feedback on several occasions and simply given up due to the captcha. I do find that it helps if you don’t capitalize any of the letters.
Re:Arie’s story. yeah… one of the best in a long time. Classic stuff.

KeymasterBecause the traffic at Brawna is substantial — 20,000 pageviews per day on average — sometimes the site times out when someone posts a new story.
And then sometimes the author reposts without checking to see if it went through the first time.
And then sometimes the author doesn’t unpublish his duplicate stories.
I just disabled the captcha for people who have already registered. I did that before and the spambots killed dozens of comment threads, but we’ll see what happens this time.
I also changed it so authors can delete their own stories. Previously they could “unpublish” them but almost none ever did when a duplicate was posted, but we’ll see what happens now.

ParticipantWow major changes. Thank you Lingster. It seems like the spambots were already getting through to some extent so I guess the key will be to see how much worse it gets.

KeymasterI really should just shut it down. It’s expensive to run and more trouble than it’s worth.

ParticipantThank you for the efforts so far in keeping Brawna running then Lingster.
Perhaps something like the mg-sg story archive as a less labor intensive drain on interia?

Ech. Well I am goddamn glad you haven’t done so yet. There is so much quality content on there and it would be tragic to see it lost to the ages.

ParticipantI know this is going to be a SUPER unpopular suggestion.
But if people like Brawna so much, maybe it’s time to set up a subscription service to have the website break even and pay for itself?
I know, I know, “WHAT SUBSCRIPTIONS!?” But really, if it’s getting to the point that Lingster is having a headache keeping it running, well… the consumers of the website should contribute -something- to keep it going.

or at the very least disable adblock for the site.
