An athletic and attractive woman appears on the sci-fi network's "reality" show Destination Truth. The show itself is a somewhat uninteresting search for mythical creatures based off of stories and rumors from around the world. One of the members of the team is a young woman named Erin Ryder who has an athletic background in Field Hockey and has some pipes on her. Did I also mention that she is attractive, oh yeah guess I did. Which is why I think they keep her on the show, that and she offers up some great scare shots. Anyway if you find yourself bored on a Wednesday night around 10:00 p.m. est check the show out, if nothing more than to see some eye candy.http://www.scifi.com/destinationtruth/team/

I started watching SF channel when *gasp* it had science fiction tv shows and movies. Lately it has been more horror movies and faux documentary shows. It's a real shame, but I suppose tv networks reach that point eventually.

This is happening at a lot of cable channels: they're no longer reliable about offering what their "theme" is supposed to be. (For me, the biggest disgrace is Sci-Fi showing pro-wrestling!) TV Land no longer shows the vintage and classic TV shows they were founded on, Cartoon Network is edging into live-action programs, A&E is now exclusively reality shows and crime dramas (sometimes both in the same show)…

Something Awful had a brief bit about this, embedded in their list of "Awful Moments of Science Fiction":

I don't agree with most of the stuff that site normally produces, but I'll admit that the show lineup/comparison they've listed is not entirely inaccurate (and the descriptions are mildly amusing).October 8, 2008 at 5:52 pm #76559AlexGKeymaster(For me, the biggest disgrace is Sci-Fi showing pro-wrestling!)
Indeed, true. A close second in egregious violation of its raison d'être would have to be the History Channel w/ Tougher in Alaska, Ice Road Truckers, etal. That type of program should be on Discovery, TLC or even the Travel channel.
Give me some new seasons of Ancient Discoveries, Dogfights or Engineering an Empire, please!

It's all about the bottom line, producing reality programs cost per unit is el-cheapo compared to manufacturing story line based programs.

Oh, I don't know, the "A Haunting" series on Discovery is very good, probably because its format of mixing reinactment with interviewing the actual participants is similar to the old Unsolved Mysteries of yrs ago.

They may have done, but they also had palatable fare like Babylon 5 and Farscape to balance it out. Lately the best they can do is original movies and shows… some of which fall pretty flat. Maybe I'm just getting more picky about I watch.

Fall flat? I think you're being kind – they're near Z-grade movies. 😉
The only exception I can think of was one that that ran a few yrs back, called The Triangle, which was surprising good – but in that case they actually appeared to have shelled out some $$$ to produce it, and got some name-familiar actors/actresses that can carry a story line.
Frankly, I think Sci-Fi could do a whole lot better if they returned to their old format of re-running some the long lost, but not forgot sci-fi series of the past, many of whom never really got a chance to take off from the ground. Perhaps, even resurrecting them ala the rebooted version of Battlestar Galactia.
Another thing that might be in order, have a retro day of the week, and show some the old sci-fi movies from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Use to be common fare on some of the late night cable channels, now you hardly see any of them now-a-days.

Another is that they tend not to give decent but expensive shows time to unfold. I was enjoying the Dresden Files and disappointed when they canceled it. A little back-seat channel management here.
Also, much as I hate to balk at showing off hot ass-kicking women, what was the deal with Painkiller Jane? No plot, no idea where it was going, no consistency, no wonder it was booted off right away. They should do La Femme Nikita re-runs, or Alias if they need some sci-fi flavor to it.
Battlestar Galactica shows sci-fi still has the potential for great television with fantastic ratings, but I think they may be learning the wrong lesson. It's not good because it's sci-fi, it's good because it has good writing, and that's what the other shows the Sci-Fi Channel is producing these days are missing.
