    Woo hoo! She-Hulk! I love She-Hulk.

    Here's a flashback:

    Love that first thought balloon!

Muscle babes and comic book geekdom all in one! How did I not find this board sooner?!

Although Amaz0ns is well known throughout the community(s), they don't often mention us since we don't fit into the conventional world view concerning comicdom and its expression of superbabes – fictional, or real world otherwise.

FBBing forumers (i.e. the denizens of Muscle Mayhem) don't take to us because they probably perceive us as too fanboyish.  Comic forumers don't take to us because they perceive us as too Bodybuilderish.

Amaz0ns is the inclusive big tent, and appeals to those exceptional individuals that enjoy both, finding them compatibly interchangeable.  8)

While I'm sure we all like to think of ourselves as "exceptional," that unfortunately means there aren't very many of us. No wonder She-Hulk's series keep getting canceled. Alex, I saw your comment in another thread that some She-Hulk fans are anti-buffed-women. How is that possible?  ??? Isn't that the whole point of She-Hulk?!

Same thing is true of the fanbase for FBBing, at least the portion that is willing to spend $$$ on the interest.  It's a niche audience, although I'm of the opinion there's far more of us, but they prefer to stay stealth mode as to publically expressing their physically attraction to buffed chix.

No wonder She-Hulk's series keep getting canceled.

To be fair, her first run (Savage) she wasn't femuscular looking, as was the case with all of the superheroines of the late '70s era.  Despite the enthusiasm of some, with the exception of the one featuring Ultima, the stories were B-class.  Her second one (Sensational) and the most successful single run of her solo title, John Byrne did push the envelope in the buffed department, for a while, then shrunk her.  The breaking of the 4th Wall format of humor he used probably had more to keeping it alive then anything else, but in time the audience tired of it.  The Third and/or Fourth runs, the Marvel artists really pushed for a plausible femuscular physique, but there has been a steady pro/con debate in the community by those such as us who have embraced it vs. those (i.e. She-Hulk forum) who, if not hate it, are definitely turned off by her bodybuilderish appearance.  What killed the title this time wasn't the artwork, which probably can claim to have been the best ever for a mainstream solo title featuring her, but the lackluster stories, initially starting off good with Dan Slott but climaxing with the disappointing run with Peter David.

Particularly those on the She-Hulk forum – although there are some exceptions there like "VanHelsing", but the majority are (vocally) against it when the topic is brought up.  In fact, I was temp-banned there for outspokenly taking to task the more derogatory individual(s).  Like female bodybuilding in the real world, there are those that are sexually turned off in the comicdom by seeing their "goddesses" being drawn with femuscular builds on the lines of a physical culturist.

Yes, that's a fair critique, I think. The stories aren't awful, but they aren't great, either. They strike me as being fairly typical Marvel formula fare – accidental and reluctant hero/ine grapples with personal problems while fighting guest villain-of-the-month.

But, hey, take a look at this. Raise your hand if you'd like to be Zapper in that last panel!

While I love Greg Horn's cover artwork, I thought a lot of the interior artwork was really bad – making Jen look a child in both her human and She-Hulk forms. And Peter David is an overrated hack, IMO.

Lucky guy, that's for sure.  Although based on what I see in the third panel, if she rakes her nails down his back… ouch.  :'(

Yeah, I'm not fond of Juan Bobillo's work there, either. (Paul Pelletier's stuff during the tail end of the first volume, though… Yowza.)
