Tonus
ParticipantThese are drawings I did from 2002-2004 and posted on Wreck's old site. I am putting up the NSFW tag even though I do not think I have any nudity or anything sexually graphic in my work. But some of it might be stuff that might make your boss raise an eyebrow anyway. Better safe than unemployed!
These first two are Masschine's character Aki (B/W and color).

ParticipantI remember these, never thought I would find you here or the other place. Even once found a website of yours.

I found this place purely by accident, and am glad I did so. I recognized your user name when I saw it but couldn't remember which artwork was yours until I saw your sketches at E.J.'s site. I always enjoyed your work, good clean linework with sharp contrasts usually works for me.
This is a sequence that I'd done to give an idea for how I worked my way through a drawing, and it's still the way I work today. Non-photo blue pencils, then ink the outlines, then fill in the details. I need to do more action shots, one reason I stopped drawing as much was that I'd hit a wall and was mostly just drawing the same poses over and over.

ParticipantI am not sure if I ever posted this one anywhere else before now. I will often go through a small pad (5" x 8" in this case) scribbling shapes and poses and tossing most of them out because I do not like the poses or the shapes. This one looked good enough that I decided to flesh it out (pun sort of intended). I like the proportions on the character. The head and face look as though they were an afterthought, and the arms are slightly out of proportion, but those are the only negatives in my mind. The small size of the pad is why the hands are missing. From the looks of it, this was some sort of take on a Batman-type of character (based on the cape and the design of the bikini bottom).

ParticipantI really like that punch out drawing- it's got good action and I love the construction of the figures!
I've never figured out how to use blue pencil, but you get such good results out if it that I am interested in giving them a try.November 28, 2008 at 7:37 pm #77763Tonus
ParticipantI switched to using non-photo blue pencils long ago, mostly out of necessity. I draw very deliberately and carefully and I really work a pencil hard on every line, and when using graphite pencils it has numerous drawbacks (if I use a hard lead, I wear the paper out, and if I use soft leads I create a real mess). I find that with a blue pencil I ease up a bit and the work flows a bit better for me (though I still need to learn to relax when I'm penciling).
It also means that when I am inking my own work, that I don't need to worry about trying to erase the pencil work that has been practically engraved in the paper. I still shudder at the thought.
