Oh. NOW I'm angry.
http://goldenhero34.deviantart.com/
I know this guy is on here, and seriously dude, what the hell?!
WHY are you directly copying/tracing OTHER PEOPLE'S WORK and sticking different faces and shit on it?!This is a direct copy of this!
And there's others like these;
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/27903079/ http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/25771911/ http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/25613978/ (OH. I THINK I'VE SEEN THOSE ARMS BEFORE.)
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/24157961/ (HOLY CRAP. EVEN DOWN TO LU'S OLD CYBERNETIC HAND. But congrats on putting it on the OTHER HAND. Originality is class, there </sarcasm>)
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/24008338/ looks like my http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/20545355/AND there's ones of other people's styles;
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/24392775/ (Guess who's art that's a copy of. I know right off the bat..)
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/30998840/ (Does anyone else think this looks a little too Atariboy for their tastes???)Okay. Seriously dude. YOU DO NOT DO THAT.
There is only one person who draws THOSE ARMS in MY STYLE and that person is ME. NOT YOU. That is plaigarism. All those pics are copied from different styles. One person DOES NOT have THAT MANY styles.
I KNOW learning artists learn by example but those are PLAIN COPIES and I was never consulted nor was I credited. THAT is against AT LEAST DA rules. And furthermore- YOU CANNOT DEVELOP YOUR OWN STYLE BY COPYING OTHER PEOPLE'S.Seriously. THIS is the kind of BULLSHIT that makes me never want to put pencil to paper again. Do you KNOW what you're doing to artists, man?!
I'm warning the rest of you actual muscle artists now- this guy has probably copied something of yours.
April 2, 2006 at 3:35 am #25702gblock01ParticipantOkay. That's not nice! I'm not sure if it is a good or a bad thing, but they weren't even copied well. And the fact that I could see that there are different styles being used is pretty bad, considering that I am not artisically inclined! On the brighter side, at least that means that this person thought that your artwork is great. 😐
April 2, 2006 at 3:56 am #25703gimme sizeParticipantI dunno… to me it looks more like someone with limited art skills trying to learn how to draw by copying the work and style of others (there are outright rips of Scoundrel and Bill Quick drawings there as well) instead of from life or some other photo reference. I understand the surprise and annoyance at seeing your own work reproduced (however poorly), but I can't imagine it was done with any real malice.
April 2, 2006 at 4:20 am #25704TolanParticipantYOU CANNOT DEVELOP YOUR OWN STYLE BY COPYING OTHER PEOPLE'S.
I'm sorry that you got upset about this (that isn't me, btw ^^) but my style (what little I have) first started as tracing, then I started to immitate the style of my favorites….which eventually melded to something I'm fine with.
besides, I thought immitation was the best form of flattery…. if those pictures were photocopy quality, I'd agree to get mad, but they are quite poorly done.
April 2, 2006 at 5:30 am #25705btxParticipantWhen I read your post I thought someone was copying your work and taking credit for it… WHICH IS AN ABSOLUTE NO-NO! But after looking at the works I dunno….
The worst you can say is that someone is mimicking your style… But that's how a lot of cartoonists/comic artists start out… by imitating their favorite artist or illustrator (Rob Liefield clones out there?). Over time, they can develop their own style/voice and stand out on their own. The works I saw were crude at best and didn't come anywhere close to your style of work. It'd be a different story if they posted your work and claimed it as theirs. Or used your characters without your permission. That's totally wrong. My 2c for what's it worth.

April 2, 2006 at 6:49 am #25706Archangel_DreadnoughtParticipantI personly would not give this guy a second though, he sucks too bad to be a problem (He can't even morph good).
At least he is not taking your's or someone elses work and slapping his logo on it, claiming it is his (I know a few people that have had that problem)
April 2, 2006 at 7:04 am #25707ChachibenjiParticipantMeh. Looks like he is indeed copying.
Which is quite fag of him since he isnt actually giving credit to the artists he went off of.
However, its one thing to not say anything about using other artworks. Its entirely another thing to say "my idea", which is sublined in some of his pictures Ive seen.
Which is again, quite fag of this guy.
And yes, his skill is pretty damn subpar.April 2, 2006 at 8:19 am #25708TC2ParticipantWhen I had to teach myself how to draw, I didn't take an art class or anything like that to learn techniques.
I went to various websites, printed out the images and traced them in pencil. Those are projects I never shared in public.
When I started doing GIF animations, instead of tracing I tried to closely mimic styles I've seen before and then modified them to fit my animation. So for instance Dave drew a great bicep for me to learn how to draw biceps, I used the bicep and then changed the body and head to fit my needs.
I usually if not always give credit to the artist if it looks like an exact duplicate, like one time I used an actual artists picture in my animation and I left his signature in it so people knew who drew it.
But I wouldn't be too hard on the guy, he's just trying to learn how to draw and is forgetting to give credit where it's due. Then again, the drawings are so crude that it's hard to tell even if it IS your art style. Eventually he's going to end up developing either his own style or stop drawing completely, so at best I'd recommend to give him a little heads up instead of flying off the handle being ticked off at him.
We all have to start learning somewhere.
April 2, 2006 at 1:14 pm #25709LuParticipantI KNOW you have to start learning somewhere but you do not just copy something you have seen, and stick another head/face/clothes whatever on it and start CLAIMING it's your own or saying it was all your idea and shit. He's lying out of his ass and personally I don't WANT him copying anything of mine whether he's learning or NOT because I was never even consulted.
Seriosuly. It's not nice to have your hard work copied and then some idiot say it's all their hard work- because it's NOT.April 6, 2006 at 3:21 am #25710FettParticipantI learned, and continue to learn to draw, by tracing. It's particularly helpful in translating the effect of lines as icons in representing whatever it is you wish to draw.
So, I trace all the time.
If I were to post my tracings, I would of course, mention where the original image I traced came from.
That said, tracing isn't much different from references. It's just a matter of making people aware of where the work comes from.
I dunno if I even bring a point worth stating to this thread, as it seems I'm agreeing with everybody.
So in summation – everyone is right. 😀
