NEW YORK – August 22, 2012 – Syfy will develop the cult UK classic adventure-sci-fi series Blake’s 7, teaming with Georgeville Television and producer Marc Rosen.

Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Green Lantern) will direct the script by Joe Pokaski (Heroes, CSI).

Originally created by Terry Nation (Dr. Who), Blake’s 7 premiered on the BBC in 1978, running for four seasons (52 episodes). The series centered around hard-core renegades and criminals who escape from a prison planet, battling humans and aliens alike – and becoming heroes.

Remember that Blake’s 7 reboot we heard about a while back? Turns out it’s been picked up by Syfy for further development. If the pilot script rocks, we could have a new version of the classic British sci-fi series back on the air within a year or two.

Deadline is reporting that Syfy has locked the project in for a script-to-series commitment, meaning that if network execs are happy with the pilot pitch, they’ll likely greenlight a 13-episode first season.

The original BBC series debuted in 1978 and was set 700 years in the future around a small group of rebels battling against the massive Terran Federation. it was low-tech, but fans loved it, and the series is still remembered fondly among sci-fi fans of a certain age.

The pilot will be written by Joe Pokaski (Heroes) and directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale).

I’d still prefer “Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome”. On one hand it’s good to see them trying to develop something more then another god awful reality series B.S. on the other……it’s the syfy channel…

props I guess for ‘trying’ to get back to the matter of Sci-Fi but I predict that like everything else they’ve tried to re-imagine and bring back it will depend solely on whether or not anyone really cares. Now if they tried bringing back say Buck Rogers, I’d be pleased as punch to watch. Also, BBC made a series called Outcasts, rocking good story but sadly only 8 episodes and no continuation, if BBC and Sci-Fi could hammer out a deal I’d WATCH that too. I dunno why Sy-Fy shows sissy stuff and reality tv, how many times can creaking buildings and anonymous sounding “Footsteps” be covered? >.> btw the “Sissy stuff” is the WWE

I hate Syfy. They cancelled Eureka and have a ton of crap on it. Vampire, mutants…all suck. Real scifi please.
