"Well, I've been thinking about that. The real challenge is not to fall into too many cliches. I'm working on another one, right now, but it'll probably be a couple of days before it's ready to post. I'm visiting relatives, right now, so, naturally, my time is not wholly my own…"
Have fun, and we're looking forward to Sylph's latest adventure.
"I've been considering that. Sylph's primary medium is actually watercolors, but part of the joy of college is taking the opportunity to branch out. What do you guys think?"
My friend is an art teacher and she encourages her students to try lots of things. Trying new things helps the creative mind.
"She says she is, but she's not sure what she wants to do. She's open to suggestions, though. (Some thoughts- she probably won't want to do a job that requires skills she doesn't possess- she's strong and smart, but she lacks experience in a number of fields, and she won't take a job that involves hurting people.)"
Of course she wouldn't! Sylph is obviously a sensitive and gentle soul – not a hooligan!
There's lots of jobs out there for girls while they go through college. Perhaps I can help:-
Helping out at a sports & leisure centre
Waitressing at a truck stop
Labouring on a building site (Yes, I know its a little unladylike but this is the 21st century…)
Taking care of animals at the zooOr she could get together with a few friends and have a go at bikini car washing? Sorry that's my imagination running away with me. 🙂
Anyway. there's lots of things to try. Wish her luck!
"As an aside, I've been asked to add a space between paragraphs to make the text a little easier on the eyes. I will be doing that in future posts. If there are any other formatting suggestions you have, feel free to let me know."
Thanks! That'll help. 🙂
July 1, 2007 at 2:55 am #54903JimmyDimplesParticipantHmm… here's an idea for part time work: an order picker in a warehouse/distribution center. She simply puts a number of items in big cartons, which go down the line to be stacked on pallets, shrinkwrapped, and shipped off by forklift to the trucks.
But soon, the manager discovers her gift of strength, and decides to have her stack the boxes on the pallets… and then when a forklift breaks down, she simply lifts up the pallets herself and carries them and loads them in the truck trailers by hand.
Of course, this is going to turn a lot of heads here. And there maybe a forklift driver who might be a little ticked off at being replaced…. Room for conflict here! 😀

BTW, it's still a very fun read 🙂

This story best captures Sylph's personality, I think- friendly, easygoing, slightly accident-prone (but not clumsy), and generally optimistic.
July 31, 2007 at 1:55 pm #54907The MoleParticipantYes, its probably mine too.
It really bears out Sylph's character, and she does something really, really strong! 🙂
