The original Johny Quest, of course.  ๐Ÿ˜‰  8)

But also two from the 80's that are endearing favs of mine:

    The Mysterous Cities of Gold

Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea

If I recall correctly, they both aired in the USA on Nickelodeon

Wow! It was a LOOONG time ago, butI remember wakin' up at 5:30 am and watchin Spartakus! Now the poor kids get the Winx Club! Poor bastards… ๐Ÿ™

Heh, how about another from the past – Star Blazers (aka Battleship Yamato) as it was syndicated in the USA.

One couldn't help but notice its enduring influance upon a later series called Robotech . . .  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yeah, these poor youngsters nowadays don't know what great animation cartoons are.  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Back in the day, there were a ton of fantastic animation cartoons that not only were drawn well but had nice back stories, also.

Herculoids, Johny Quest, Sinbad Jr., Space Ghost, Young Samson & Goliath, and Mighty Mightor were my favorites of that era.  There were plenty of opportunities for some FMG also amongst most of the shows that I've listed above, also.  ๐Ÿ™‚
