    Hi, all…

I know most of you here are more into the Amelie Mauresmo or Jennifer Capriati type physique (NTTATWWT  :-D), but…

I stumbled across an interesting/amusing thread on celebheights.com about Maria Sharapova and her recent growth spurt.  It includes links to various pictures, including "before" and "after" net meetings with the same opponent about 18 months apart.  It does appear she's grown *several* inches.  Her "official" height has been upgraded from 6 feet to 6'2", and there's speculation she's still growing.

I think some of the posters have gotten carried away — speculating she'll grow to 6'6" or something — but it's certainly fun to follow… and imagine the possibilities…

"Attack of the 50 Foot Tennis Chick," anyone?  😎

Ha – I had just found that board and was going to post it here. Good catch.

Since Sharapova turns 19 in two months, I had figured she stopped growing a while ago. But those commenters have some terrific theories about her, and there are links to comments she's made about "growing into my body" or "still growing" as recently as four months ago. A lot of the commenters are convinced she's already hit 6'3'', but I'm not sure how much of that is camera angles and heels and etc.

I can say something pretty uncontroversial: I want Sharapova to stop complaining about her size and start bulking up already. She's barely 130 pounds! If you go by BMI, she's actually underweight right now. It shouldn't be that hard for Sharapova to eat a little more and hit the weights, and put on 10-15 pounds over the next year or so.

One nice thing about following Sharapova is that she's so famous, and such a sports sex symbol, that she's always getting asked about her height and her size. There are dozens of clips or articles where she muses about her latest growth spurt, and then giggles. Who can get tired of that? The only thing better would be if she starts getting asked about her steadily growing shoulders and biceps, and then giggles as she flexes.

You know where these clips of her giggling about her growth spurts are?

Not sure if these will help, but here are links to a couple of audio clips.  They're streaming — I'm not smart enough to figure out how to save them as files…

The BBC site has some other audio and video clips that might work as well.

I'm not sure where to find clips. The original board we're discussing had talk of an interview on Jimmy Kimmel where he discussed. There's sadly no audio clip of the Time magazine interview where she complained about surging from 6' to 6'2''.

I'm not so sure she weighs 130 pounds.  That's one heck of a serve she's got for someone who's all skin and bones.  Remember she has long limbs (maybe getting longer??)

Consider Gabby Reece.  Reece had a supermodel's appearance (pro'lly still does… :-D), but weighed 175 pounds.

Anyway, Sharapova 's a well-trained professional athlete, and could probably beat the tar out of either of us.

Then again, I suppose there are WORSE ways to go…  😎

Of course whether or not (or how much) Ms. Sharapova "fills out" will depend a lot on what her priorities really are.  I can imagine her tennis handlers pressuring her to add some power and speed while her modeling handlers pressure her to strive toward vacuuous, poufy-lipped stickdom.  Then again, perhaps Hollywood is looking for someone to be the female equivalent of Arnold or a bigger version of Milla Jovovich or Linda Hamilton.

Stimpy mentioned Gabriel Reece.  In her book. "Big Girl In The Middle", Ms. Reece makes it clear that she loves being big, athletic, and powerful.  However, it was awkward for her at first until her emotional maturity caught-up to her body.
Like many women her age, teenage Ms. Sharapova does not seem to have yet come to grips with who she is or what she wants.  She almost seems annoyed or even frustrated by her size and the attention that it brings.  The fact that she still seems to be growing, while a source of interest for me and others, seems to be something with which she is not yet comfortable.

I wish her the best with whatever she chooses.

    Tschuss!
